EASY Jerry Lee Lewis Style Piano Tricks for Beginners! chords
Start Jamming...
Hi guys, in this lesson we're checking out how to do some Jerry Lee Lewis style piano
glissando runs and how to play some cool right hand stuff.
Now most beginners lessons on this would detail the left hand which is the bass notes and
[A] doing these sorts of runs, okay?
That is a skill that takes a long time to develop and a better way to focus initially
if you are a beginner at piano is to focus more on the right hand and playing some of
the jazzier stuff.
This is going to be super easy, we're going to play one chord and then learn how to slide
down the piano.
Let's get in for a close up and show you how to play this and then which songs you can
play it over.
Jerry Lee Lewis style piano.
If you search YouTube [C] there are loads of videos showing you how to do a rock and roll rhythm
[Gb] with left hand work in the key [D] of C so with your little finger on a C note and there are
loads of patterns that work.
There are very few videos that show us [Abm] about the fun stuff, the right hand, okay?
So I will be doing a lesson in the future on the left hand and I'll be doing plenty
of work on this but [A] to start with let's learn how to go and
[Dm] [C] do a glissando roll and some
Jerry Lee Lewis style rock piano lead.
So we need to put our first finger on a C note that is two octaves above middle C.
So
this is middle C here, that's the octave above, two black notes, three black notes.
We're going to do the same again, two black notes, three black notes, there it is and
we're going to put our [A] thumb on the A note just below so it's like this and then our
[Ab] middle finger on an E flat [A] here.
And we're going to play this chord five times, one, two, three, four, five, one, two, three,
four, five and if you play that at the start of the bar, one, two, three, four, one, [C] two,
three, four, it works really well over this kind of groove, okay?
[A] So one, two, three, four, five, one, two, three, four, five, one, two, three, four,
five and then to make it a bit more flashy, he does lots of
Jerry Lewis does lots of these [C] glissando rolls [N] where we basically run our first two fingers
together down the piano.
You can also do it with your thumb, down the piano if your fingers are hurting from doing
this a little bit and on this particular keyboard, I should say that my keyboard has semi-weighted
keys and on a keyboard, this is an absolute doddle, you can do it with your fingers.
If you do this on a real piano or an electric piano with very heavy-weighted keys, this
is going to really cause some pain in your fingers, okay?
So I'm going to show you how to do this without hurting your fingers, okay?
And the idea is we use our nails as much as possible because they're the hard bits of our hand.
So we need [D] to run our nails down the fingers in turn and as I say, if your nails start
really hurting on your [A] first two fingers, we can use your thumbnail instead, that is
okay but if you use the fleshy parts of your fingers, this is going to hurt like hell if
you do it on a proper piano, okay?
So let me demo what we're going to be going for.
One, two, three, four, five.
One, two, three, four, five.
And for the glissando roll, I'm running from around [C] about G to around about C, so from
this area to here.
Though it doesn't matter exactly where you go, experiment and have fun.
One, two, three, four, five.
Slide.
So let's have a play through this together with [C] the left hand as well.
I'm going to be playing this with my little finger on a C [G] note and the thumb going from
[A] G, G, A, [D] A, G, G, A, [G] A.
[Eb] But I'm going to be doing that [Dbm] two octaves down, [G] so not one octave, two octaves.
And we're going to be going [C]
[A] over [C] the top of it and you're doing some Jerry Lee Lewis-style piano slides.
This should be awesome, okay?
So let me get the left hand going first of all for you.
There it is.
Two, three, four.
Give it a go.
One, two, three, four.
One and two and three.
Slide.
One and two and three.
Slide.
One and two and three.
Slide.
One and two and three. Slide.
Pretty fun, right?
Okay, that's how to play some lead-style piano.
I'll be doing more of these lead lines on this channel going forward.
But for now, we're going to leave it there.
Thank you so much for checking out this lesson, guys.
