Hey guys, Cones here, just hanging out with Marty and teaching a Glen Campbell tune called
Southern Nights.
One of my favorites.
Let's zoom in.
Let's zoom it on in.
Alright, so
here we go, Southern Nights, Glen Campbell.
We're going to start with this E chord, just
a little old E chord.
And our strumming pattern is going to be this kind of bouncy right hand.
Some good [Em] kind of mute, use your pinky [F#] over here to mute [E] out.
[C#]
Okay, so then we're going
to walk up to our next [D#] chord here.
So [E] this is what's called the 6th chord.
It's built
up 6th scale degree.
[C#m] We're going to play it [G] as a C sharp, sharp with a [E] raised 9th, so
C sharp, sharp 9.
It's like the Jimi Hendrix [Em] chord, just down here.
So, 2nd finger, [C#] 4th
fret, 5th string.
1st finger, 3rd fret, 4th [Em] string.
4th fret, 3rd finger, 3rd string.
And pinky, [F] 5th fret, 2nd string.
[E]
So [E] we got, [C] [E] and use that [B] 2nd finger there from that E,
[C] [C#m] just walk up that little bass [E] line if you want to do that.
[C#] [A#]
So our next chord, the 2
chord, playing it as a F sharp dominant 7, bar all the way across the 2nd fret.
[F#] [F] 3rd finger
is going on the 4th fret of the 5th string, and the 2nd finger goes down the 3rd fret
of the [E] 3rd string.
Leave that 4th string open to catch the bar on [F#] the 2nd fret.
[A]
So an [G#] A, just a plain [A] old A, you can play it like that, you can play it like that.
Whatever
you want to do.
[G#m]
Our next [A#] chord, A flat [G#m] minor 7, or G sharp, however you want to call it.
I play it like this, a lot of people do, it's 2nd finger, 4th fret, 6th string, and then
your 3rd finger is coming [B] down, barring the [F#] 4th fret of the 4th, [G#m] 3rd, and 2nd strings.
[A#] Now the 5th string, we want to make [Fm] sure that's muted by our [G#m] 2nd finger here.
[A]
[B] [C#] So just for [E] context,
[C#m] back to the 2 chord, [A]
to our A,
[G#m] to our A flat minor [B] 7, now to the
5 chord, B major, just play it as a barre chord, you can play it like this, you can
play it like that.
[E] Maintaining the same sort of strum, [C#m]
[E] [C#m]
[F#] just keeping [A] it lively.
[G#m] [B]
[E] [C#]
The more
comfortable [F#] you get with it.
[G#] [A]
[G#m] [B]
[E]
Alright, so [D] that's all there is to it.
Southern Knights.

So, 2nd finger, [C#] 4th

[G#] [A]
[G#m] [B]
