Dadgad is a very popular tuning [Dm] amongst folk guitarists, but its reach goes far beyond
that as players such as Pierre-Benet Sousan and [F] Annie McKee have demonstrated in their [Dm] diverse compositions.
[F] This [G] short piece aims to explore a [Dm] few of the aspects that make Dadgad such a [F] lovely
tuning to play in, from [Dm] lush open string harmonies to [F] unusual chord voicings [G] which aren't available
in [D] standard tuning.
In order to get to Dadgad, you need to [E] detune both the [D] 6th and 1st strings a whole tone to D.
[Bm] You will also need to detune the [A] 2nd string a whole tone to A.

The piece [Bb] opens with an arpeggio which can [Dm] be fretted with 1st, 2nd and 3rd [F] fingers before
you need to jump [G] down ready to play the hammers.
[Dm] Keep 2nd and 3rd fingers down [F] here as the 1st finger plays these [G] hammers, that way you'll
get all the [Dm] harmonies ringing together.
Slide your 2nd [F] finger up the 6th string to reach the final [G] chord of this [Dm] section.
This will place you in [F] a higher position, [G] ready to jump back up the neck for the repetition.
[D] Applying a simple finger per string rule works well to play this [F] opening passage.
