The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is a dual, or has a meaning on two levels for me.
Because I wrote it at a time when I was very frustrated with some things that I was trying to accomplish in my career.
And I was convinced that I had reached too far, that I had tried to do too much.
And I think that our culture, the American culture, encourages us sometimes to reach maybe a little too far.
And so it exists on that level.
And then on another level, I was just getting over a horrific love affair that cost me about five years of my life.
And [G] I was trying also to capture [Dm] some of the disappointment that I felt [Bb] there.
