When I wrote Wichita Lineman, I was doing a follow-up for one of the only times in [B] my life as a songwriter.
Glenn had called me and said, I need a follow-up for by the time I get to Phoenix.
Will you write one?
And it's one of the few times in my [Bbm] life when I was successful in doing that,
because a lot of times I've written follow-ups that either weren't done,
or [A] if they were done, maybe they didn't eventually turn out to be [Bb] the single or whatever.
But maybe three times in my life I've written a follow-up that [Ab] actually followed, that did what it was [F] supposed to.
It followed the record and became a hit and got on the radio, [Bb] and that was one of them.
[F]
I am a lineman for the county,
[F] and I drive [Bb] the main road
[Dm] Searching [Am] in the sun [G] for another [D] overload
I hear you singing in [C] the wire
I can hear you [G] through the wine
[Gm] And the Wichita [D] Lineman, [A] he's still on [Bb] the line
[C]
[Bb] [C] I know I need a small [Bb] vacation
[F] But it don't [C] look like rain
And [Dm] if it [Am] snows, the stretch down [G] south won't ever stand the [D] strain
And I need you more [C] than want you
And I want you [G] for all time
And [Gm] the Wichita [D] Lineman,
[A] he's still on [Bb] the line
[C] [Bb]
[C] [G] [F]
[C]
[Dm] [Am] [G]
[D] And I need you more [C] than want you, girl
And I want you for [G] all time
[Gm] And the Wichita [D] Lineman, [A] he's still on [Bb] the line
[C] Got a Wichita lady on [Bb] his mind
[C] [D]
