[C] Hey guys, we're going to continue our discussion on quartet this week.
So here's one of the very familiar walk-ups that you hear from the one to the four, kind
of like in the quartet ballad world where you just, you know, you're working more from
the one to the four.
So we're in the key of E, so we're walking up from E, F sharp, G sharp, A.
And then we
might hit a five right there or a B.
So let's see what that looks like.
[E] All right, here's the bass line.
I'm going to hit E open.
[F#] [G#]
[A]
[B] [E]
[G#] [A]
[B] [E]
All right, let's add chords to it.
So we know our one is major, so we got an E major.
[C#] Two is minor, [F#m]
so that's F sharp [G#m] minor.
G [A] sharp minor.
A major, and so the five will [B] be B.
[G] But I'm going to do something different.
I'm going to do a five over four, so that's going to be the A chord with the B in the bass.
[E] [B] [B]
Or we can do it this way.
[E] All right, so let's see what that sounds like in context.
[F#] [G#] [A]
[E]
So what I just did that time, I changed [A] that A from just a major chord to a major seven.
So let's experiment with a few variations of that.
So this time I'm going [E] to kind of give it that open chord feel where I'm going to leave
the B and E all the way open as I progress through the chords.
[F#] [E]
[A] [B] [E] [A]
[E]
[A] [B]
[E] I can do that with the full chord as well.
[C#m] [D#] [E]
[C#m] [E] [A]
[Em]
We can also go to a different version of different voicing of that.
So here we [E] go.
I'm going to go down [B] to my sus chord.
[F#m] [G#m]
[A] So that's the same [E] thing.
We're playing E.
[F#m] [G#m]
[A] So now we're using seven chords.
So we're doing minor seven for the minor chords and a major seven for the major chords.
[E]
Major seven.
[B] And that's the sus.
Sus two.
[F#m] [D#m] [A]
[E]
We can do a sus chord there as well.
So [A] that's the same thing, yes?
[E]
[F#m] When we're doing those minor sevens, we can actually do a little chord inflections.
[G#m] [C#m]
[E] [A]
[E]
[B] [E]
[B] So let's come back to the five over four.
[D#] [G#m]
[E] E major seven.
[F#m] [G#m] [A]
[F#m] [E]
[F#m] [A]
[E]
[A] So that chord, I'm playing around with the four.
[E] [F#m] [E]
So I'm going from four, one, two, one.
[A] [F#m] [A#]
[E]
[D#] [A]
[C#m] [E]
[A] [C#m]
[F#] [C#m]

[F#m] [G#m] [A]
[F#m] [E]
[F#m] [A]
[E]
[A] So that chord, I'm playing around with the four.
[E] [F#m] [E]
