Sometime we were rolling down the road listening [Ab] to, I was on this big kick [G] for a while, listening
to This [Ebm] American Life all the time and just [F] loving Ira Glass and the [C] writers of that show.
And [Bm] one of [Am] the people on the show said something about like, what if we [A] can't drown our sorrows?
[Am] Meaning what if alcohol doesn't [D] work?
And I [Ab] sat down, I think it was at the [G] Terrapin Hill [Em] Music Festival in [G] Kentucky and [Dm] I started
writing [D] this poem [Dm] of sorts in meter.
And that's where the [Em] verses come from.
[Dm] I want to be a bad guy in a [Bb] silent film, lit up [G] by [Dm] candles and sprayed between the shadows.
I wouldn't have to say nothing [Bb] or sound mean.
I just [Em] wouldn't smile [Dm] or look too pleased.
[F]
We can't [Gm] all be good.
[Dm] My [Em] guess is that [Dm] they shouldn't.
[F] What [Gm] if [Bb] sorrows swim?
The [A] guy's gonna [Dm] need to burn them.
[A] [Dm]
[A] [Dm] Probably cut my hair off and save my beard.
Stop [G] wearing white, keep nothing clean at all.
Oh, what a relief from the [Bb] pressure.
Just be hated and [Em] learn that being [Dm] bad ain't nothing but [F] pleasure.
[Gm] We can't all [Bb] be good.
My [A] guess is that [Dm] they shouldn't.
[F] [Gm] What if [Bb] sorrows swim?
Good [Em] guy's gonna [Dm] need to burn [G] them.
[A] [Dm]
[Am] [Dm] Good [G] guy's gonna need to [Am] burn [Dm] them.
Good guy's gonna [Bb] need to [A] burn them.

[Dm] [A]
[Dm] [G] [A]
[Dm] I could rob some worse [Bb] guys, done up like good ones,
then hide a pile of money and never have to worry.
Maybe give it all away for a reason to steal.
Another [A] chance to keep [Dm] from keeping still.
[F] We [Gm] can't all [Dm] be good.
My [Em] guess is that [Dm] they shouldn't.
[F] [Gm] What if sorrows swim?
[Bb] Good [Em] guy's gonna [Dm] need to burn them.
Good [A] guy's gonna [Dm] need to burn them.
[A] [Dm]
[C] Good guy's gonna need to burn them.
[D]
It's burning now.
