[N] [A] Okay, hi [Gb] Megan again [E] next level guitar
Today, we're going to do [Em] something a little different [D] some finger picking technique [Em] here
And I'll go ahead and show you something
on [E] the guitar and
Then we'll go ahead and [D] zoom in and you can see [Eb] exactly what I'm doing and I'll break it down go slowly
And we'll work our way through it
[E] Okay, so we'll start with an A minor and let's hear what we can come up with [Gb] here we go
Let's try an A minor [F] and we'll hold it for a while and then we'll change chords
But uh, I'll [E] go ahead and explain it to [Eb] you somewhere in there.
[E] Here we go
[Am]
[C]
[Am]
[Bb] So that was simple but now [E] we're gonna go [A] ahead and look at it closely [Eb] and
Break it [Gb] down
So the most important part about
[Eb] Finger picking is you know where your fingers are on the [Ebm] string and the pattern that you're that you're [A] plucking away at [Eb] and [Bb] so
[Bbm] I'm gonna go [E] ahead and bring you in on a tight shot and we're gonna look exactly at what I was doing there
[D] [Bb] and
[B] You don't have to worry at [Eb] all about what your other hand is doing holding the [Ebm] whatever chord you're [E] particularly on because [Eb] you're gonna be paying
Much more attention [Bb] to the rhythm [E] and the pattern that [B] you're that you're [Em] plucking away at with your other [C] hand
So [E] let's go ahead and get a tight shot in [B] and take a look at this
The first [Bb] thing you're gonna do is you're gonna be a [Gb] finger and a minor chord and I just kind of forget about it
Just leave it there.
And now we're gonna [Eb] focus on our fingers and [E] where they [Eb] are on the strings
[E] So you'll [Eb] see my my thumb here is on that [A] low a
Here [Eb] and then the other fingers at three my other three fingers here
[Em] one my first [Eb] finger here is on the G [A] and then [Eb] my second finger here is on the [C] B and
Then [Eb] my fourth finger here.
No, I mean my third finger [E] is on the high e
And the pinky is just kind of hanging [Eb] out there
So there's a few [Gb] I guess different schools of thought [Eb] on that, but that's how I play.
I let that pinky hang out there
So [Bb] let's kind of look what we're gonna do first
To [Gb] start the strum pattern.
[C] Okay.
So first we're going to start this [G] pattern by
[Eb] by
Leaving our fingers on the strings and they're gonna stay in the same position the entire time first things first
I'm [G] gonna take off some of their [Gb] fingers so you can see the first [Eb] two strings that I'm plucking simultaneously here.
So, [Am] here we go
Okay, that's what those are gonna sound [Gb] like
So first [Am] those two then drop your thumb down to the next [A] string and hit that one
And then back up
[Am]
Okay, so let's [Gb] leave those there and do that again the two [Am] together and then the thumb
Okay, so let's do it a little bit faster
Okay, and so you can just [A] continue to play that and you'll get good at that but just really kind of hang there [E] you're you're
Other [Bb] hands on the a minor and until that just becomes
Kind of second nature to you keep playing that over and over and then once you get comfortable [Eb] playing that
You can switch to a different chord
Maybe something easy to go [E] to from an a [G] minor would be to a C.
So let's [Eb] just see what that sounds like
We'll play the progression [G] through two [Eb] times here with the a minor starting and then into the C.
So let's start
[Am]
[C]
[Am]
[C]
[A]
Okay.
All right That's it
[Gb]
Okay, so there is another technique for you to [E] use a little bit of a [Eb] softer sound
But it'll open up another side to playing the [Gb] guitar for you
[Bbm] and it just takes a [E] little bit of practice and
[A] really [Eb] focusing on
[E] Getting that pattern down and playing it over and over again
[Em] And recognizing that you don't actually have to change anything [Ab] other than your [Eb] fingers to play another chord
So [A] you keep that pattern going and then you can [C] switch around to not just an a minor to [E] a C
But all the different other chords and see how that sounds and then [Gb] once you get proficient [Eb] at that you can start
Switching your strumming [Em] pattern and [Eb] trying out different things and [Gb] in different progressions.
Okay, so [A] practice
that that
Fingerpicking pattern with a few different [E] chords and and maybe the other chord progressions that you're [Eb] practicing with or that you've recently [Gb] learned
And once you get proficient with that [E] you can pick up the speed of [Gb] it the pace and [F] and try
Maybe different [E] strum patterns and it'll really open up a whole new
realm of playing for you and
Enjoy it and practice it and we'll see you next time
Bye
