Hi, I just thought I'd do a quick lesson on how to play a simple version of Dimming of the Day by Richard Thompson
In that it's capoed up to the fourth fret
in the original and also in the covers like people
done and it's either played open [C] or capoed on the first fret and
Mr.
tuning so that's just the D
[E] but you can just play it with
[Em] It's a fairly straightforward chord pattern as I say in the drop D

Hi, I just thought I'd do a quick lesson on how to play a simple version of Dimming of the Day by Richard Thompson
[F] This version [Em] is similar to the live version that he plays
In that it's capoed up to the fourth fret
_ I believe in the original and also in the covers like people
such as Alison Krauss [D#] and Bonnie Raitt have done and it's either played open [C] or capoed on the first fret and _
Mr.
Thompson also plays it with a
_ Drop D tuning so that's just the D
[D] tuning of the sixth string, [E] but you can just play it with
the standard tuning chord shapes
_ [Em] _ _ It's a fairly straightforward chord pattern as I say in the drop D
The chord shapes are slightly different, but it gives some nice
resounding [B] bass
notes so you get that nice D on the when you're playing the D chords
so the
_ sequence of [Em] chords for the verse is
[B] beginning on a G and
then traveling [E] via a B diminished [B] chord _ _ to the [F#] D and _ _ [E] then C _ _ _ _ _
and then the descending bass line
[C#] _ [B] _ _ [F#] _
To the D and then [B] back to the G _ [F] and then B [D#] diminished and the [F#] D and _ _ _ _ _
_ [E] then C again and
then [F#] D _ [B] and G
_ And that's it for the verse
_ [Gm] _ so for the
chorus
It goes from a D
_ [C#m] _ _ _ _ [F#] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ To an A ninth and [C#] _ _ _ _ [G#] _
_ [G#m] _ _ [G#] _ _ _ _ _
[D#] then back to the [F#] D and _ _ then [C#] A and _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ that's all the [Em] chords
[N] _ So I'm gonna play the verse through to the chorus and first just the guitar alone and then
_ _ [B] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [F#] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ [F#] _ _ _ _ _

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [C#] _
[G#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [F#] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [C#] _
_ _ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ This _ [B] _ old house is falling down [F#] around my _ _
_ _ _ _ I'm [E] drowning [G#m] in the fountain [B] of my
[F#] _ _ Tears
_ _ _ [B] When all my will is gone you [F#] hold me sway _ _
I _ _ [E] need you at the [B] beginning of the day
[F#] _
[B] _ _ _ [F#] You pull me like the moon pulls [C#] on the tide _
You _ _ [F#] know just where I keep my _ _ [C#] bedside
_ [F#]
I _ [E] _ _ _ need _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[A#] _ _ _ _ [E] _ you [B] at the demand [F#] [B] of the day
_ [C#] _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [F#] _ _ _ [B] _ [E] _ _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
