Hey everybody, [A] the next lesson that we're going to do here is Either Way by Chris Stapleton
and it's off of his new album From A Room Volume 1.
[N] What I'm going to do in this lesson is I'm going to show you the melody lines and some
of the embellishments that he plays throughout the song.
I hope you learn something and let's get on to the lesson.
We begin [A] with the setup and the setup is you drop the top string to D tuning and you have
the capo in the second [F] fret.
Starts out with an arpeggio [A] of the top three strings while using all down strokes.
[E] [E] And then you have a slide.
You play in the fifth [A] string in the fourth fret with the middle finger.
[C#] Down stroke, [A] slide, down, up, go back to the fourth [C#] fret, down, [B] down.
So [E] it's like this.
[D#] [E]
[B] [B] Okay.
Now he plays that through once and then the second time he drops down to the fourth string
and slides from the [A] fourth fret to the sixth fret.
So it's something [E] like this.
[C#] [E] [F#]
[A] So the second, the first time [E] through, [D#] down, [C#] down, down, pull off, [F#m] [A] down, slide.
[E]
[C#] [B]
[F#] So he does a pull off in the fourth fret [B] and [A] then drops his finger down to that [D#] fourth
string and then plays that slide.
[G#]
[E]
[B] [B] [E]
[A] Okay.
So when he begins to sing, he'll play that through one time and then the second time
through he doesn't drop to that fourth string and slide.
What he does is he does [E] this.
[A] [B] And he slides from the fourth fret up to the seventh fret barring the three top strings.
[A] Now keep in mind you just want to play those three top strings.
If you play them all it doesn't sound very good.
Well it kind of does but you know.
And the song, for the song's sake, you're just doing the three top strings.
So it'll go something like this [E] up to speed.
[C#] [E] [D#]
[B] [E]
[B] [E]
[B] Then from there he goes to the A and then he plays this next embellishment which is
very common with Chris Stapleton.
He uses it a lot in a lot of his songs.
And what you have is you have an A chord and you play the A and then you're going to hammer
on second finger right next to the index finger on the second string [E] and then your
third finger is going to be in the next fret over on the fourth string making somewhat
of a D chord.
So [F#] it's going to, the hammer on will sound something like this.
[E]
So you're going to play it, hammer on [B]
[D] [A] and then pull them right back off.
[B]
And a [B] lot of times, sometimes he'll do that twice.
It'll sound something like this.
[E] Okay.
Then when he goes to the chorus, the next riff that he plays in the chorus is you play
the fourth string open [B] and then closed in the [C#] fourth fret and then [E] the fourth string
open and [F#m] then the fourth fret and [E] then D.
[B] So it sounds something like this.
[E] Once again, open, [F#] fourth fret, [C#] fifth string, [E] open, fourth fret, [F#m] fourth string.
[B] So fifth string open, [C#] fifth string fourth [E] fret, fourth string open, [F#m] fourth string fourth
fret [E] and then D.
[B] So it sounds like this.
[B] Then he plays [E] from there, he'll go to a slide [D] up to that seventh fret [B] and does something similar there.
He hammers on in the ninth fret with his third finger on the [A] fifth string.
[A]
[E] There you have it.
Those are the embellishments.
Hope you [B] can learn from that.
Take your time with it and good luck to you and we'll see you in the video lesson.
and it's off of his new album From A Room Volume 1.

[G#]
[E]
[B] [B] [E]

[E] Once again, open, [F#] fourth fret, [C#] fifth string, [E] open, fourth fret, [F#m] fourth string.
[B] So fifth string open, [C#] fifth string fourth [E] fret, fourth string open, [F#m] fourth string fourth
fret [E] and then D.
[B] So it sounds like this.
[B] Then he plays [E] from there, he'll go to a slide [D] up to that seventh fret [B] and does something similar there.
