Start Jamming...
[F] [D#] [Cm]
[F] Hey [D#] everybody, Dan here with HD Piano.
In this [G#] lesson, Everyday Life by Coldplay.
It's a lovely song [D] and it sounds like this.
Three, four.
[F#m]
[A] [G]
[D] [F#m]
[Em]
[D] [F#m]
[D] [Em]
[F#m] [D] [A]
[Bm] [D]
And that tail end represents the verse, which we'll learn at hdpiano.com along with the entire lesson.
This is the intro and chorus video.
And we start the intro and chorus on the D chord.
D in the left, A, D, F sharp in the right.
That's the fingering I would recommend.
And we're hovering right over middle C by the way in that right hand.
The next chord shape that we'll be arriving on [F#m] is F sharp minor 7.
That's this.
F sharp in the left, A, E in the right.
These are our landing spots by the way.
Consider them lily pads of sorts that we'll be jumping to and [A] from.
The next lily pad is A add 4.
A in the left, [D] A, C sharp, D in the right.
[G] And then G over B.
B in the left, G, B in the right.
So those four chords are sort of our launch from [D] and our arrive to points.
So we have a D chord,
[F#m] F sharp minor 7, [A]
A add [D] 4, [G] and G over B.
Now [D] let's see how we get
to those chords from the prior.
Start on D.
[F#m] We have a nice little [D] melody here.
It's D chord and then A in the thumb, then the chord again.
[A] There [D] we have [G] pinky on G, [D] back down to F sharp, [A] [F#m]
and we're sort of anticipating that right
hand on the F sharp minor [D] chord.
[F#m] [D] Slowly.
[F#m]
Moving on, thumb.
[D]
So here's cool, [F#m] this is cool.
We have thumb, [D] [F#m] that C sharp holds through, [D] and we add a D with the A bass note.
[A] Sounds kind of dissonant but it does work.
That is classic Chris Martin by the way, that add 4 chord.
[F#m] [D] [F#m] [A]
Just like that.
It's really gentle that D on top.
It's not, [D] we want it to [A] ring below the C sharp volume wise.
Just like that.
[G] Okay, [A] then we have [D] [A] descending A, D, [B] C sharp on our way to our G over B chord.
And [Bm] now a [D] nice parallel motion left and [B] right hand.
It's [Bm] B in the left, D in the right, and then just [C#m] move up.
C sharp and E,
[D] then D in the left, A, F sharp in the right.
Okay, those are the first four measures of the intro and they're going to be recycled
quite a bit so we've almost learned it all.
Let's go back to the top.
Play it really, really slowly and see how much of it you can catch.
[G] Three [D] and four and.
[F#m]
[D] [F#m]
[A]
[D] [G] [B]
[Bm] [C#m] [D] Okay, here's the fifth measure.
The same as the first,
[F#m] so is the second.
[D] [F#m] So far it's the same, right?
[D] [G] [Em] That's a little [A] different right there.
[D] [Em] Okay, [Am] before it was, [D] [G]
[A] now it's, [Em] [A] so that's A, C [D] sharp, [F#m] D, C sharp, [Em] and now we have an
E minor 7 chord instead of a G over B.
So it's E in the left, G, B in the right.
[E] [Em] And that's how we get out of that chord.
B, D, B, [D] C sharp, D, and then we repeat the original first four measures.
[F#m]
[D] [Em] Sorry, the second four.
So it ends on an E minor 7, so we do the E minor 7 twice in a row.
Okay, [D] so up to that point we've learned the entire intro, so I'm actually going to go
back, play those three cycles.
Again the second and third are identical.
The first is slightly different.
Let's play those three cycles at a medium slow speed.
Three and four and.
[F#m]
[D] [F#m] [A]
[D] [B]
[Bm] [C#m] [D]
[F#m]
[D] [F#m] [A]
[D] [Em]
[D]
[F#m]
[D] [F#m]
[G] [Em]
And now this coming up is technically the verse, [F#m] but it sort of works as the tail end
of the chorus too.
[D]
[A]
[Bm]
[D] Okay, and we'll talk about that more in the next video, which again is at HDpiano.com
if you're not there.
Okay, so that's the chorus, I mean the intro.
Now let's just see how it changes when we get to the actual chorus where there's singing
along with it, because the intro is just instrumental.
So here's the actual chorus.
[F#m] [A]
[G] [C#] [D]
[F#m]
[Em] [D]
[F#m] [A]
[Em] [F#m] So it's identical.
There really is maybe only one subtlety and that is the [A] add four chord isn't an add four,
that A chord.
So that is to say that the intro works almost identically as the chorus, and so we've covered
that all in one unit.
All right, the rest of [Gm] the lesson is at HDpiano.com.
I would love to see you there to finish it up.
