Hi, Nick here.
Today in this video I'm going to show you how to play The Beatles I'll Cry
[N] Instead.
It's a really simple song so it's going to be a pretty short video I think.
The focus really on this tutorial is beat and rhythm.
So I'll show you in detail how
we get that sorted.
There's only a verse and a chorus, those are the only variations in
the song and I'll show you the outro right at the end.
Throughout the video there'll be chord shapes appearing down on the bottom right hand corner
of your screen.
Tab will be over here on the left.
There's some links at the end of the
video.
There's one that will take you to a chords and lyrics video with our cover playing
in the background so you can sing and play along.
It's a great way actually to nail the
song.
I've done it a few times with the video up to speed.
It's by far the best way to
get a song really sorted.
There's also links there to further tutorials in the series.
So let's get on with it, eh?
This song is all about [G#] the rhythm really.
It's a very simple beast to play.
[G]
Let's show
you what it goes like for starters.
[C] [G] A [C]
[G] [C] [G] [C] [G]
[C] bit of slap back echo if you've [G] got it.
We're
going to be playing the G's and the C's as barre [C] chords.
[G] G is your standard F [C] shape,
C6 right the way across.
And the [G] rhythm we're going to be doing.
So if you watch very carefully
this hand will be gripping and loosening its grip if you like to provide chords that ring
and chords that don't.
OK, so you go.
[C] [G] [C] [G]
[Am] [G] So basically this hand is gripping on the first and the
third beat of the barre.
One, two, three, four.
[Am] [G] [Am] [G]
[C] [G] [C] [G]
[C] [G]
[Am] [G] [C] [G]
[C] [D]
[C]
[Gm]
[G]
[D] [G] [Am] [G]
[C] OK, so very [N] simple stuff.
It's all to do with the rhythm really.
[G]
Let's try that up to speed.
Oh, the intro by the way is just a couple of bars.
[Am] [G] [Am]
[G] [Am] [G] [Am]
[G] OK, so four bars of G and C and then we'll get straight into verse one.
One, two, three,
four.
[C] [G] [Am] [G] [Am]
[G] [C] [G]
[Am] [A#] [G] [Am] [G]
[C] [G]
[Am] [D]
[Am]
[G]
[D] [G]
[Am] [G] [Am] [G]
[G#] OK, so [D] those are your verses.
[F] Very straightforward stuff.
Then there's a bridge that repeats
a couple of times.
So let's have [Bm] a look at that.
It goes [A] one, two, [Bm] three.
[A]
[D]
[E] [A]
[D] OK, shall we try that [Bm] together?
So B minor.
Again we're going to be in [F#] barre [A] position.
A seventh and open [D] D.
[E] Open E seventh, open [A]
A, [D] open B.
OK, [Em] let's try it together.
One,
[Bm]
[Em]
[D]
two, three.
[E] Alright, [A]
[C] [D] [G]
so that's pretty well the whole beastie except for the outro.
So the outro is straight
off the end of a verse and all we're going to do right [C] at the end is go.
[B] [F#m] [G]
So we're going
to [C] climb down from C, C, [B]
B, [A] A, [F#] G sharp.
[G] Sorry, F sharp.
G.
And then we finish on a nice G
sixth.
So let's try the [C] last [E] verse together [G] then.
[A#] One, two, [Am] three.
[G]
[C] [G] [C] [G] [C]
[G] [C] [G]
[C] [D]
[C] Yeah, I'm a gonna break a man too.
I'll show you what your loving man can do.
[G]
[D] Great, [G] [C]
[G] [C] [G] [C] [D]
[G] [C] [G] [C]
[G] [D]
[F#m] [G]
[N]
I hope you got that.
Don't forget there's some links coming up in a minute.
One will
take you to a chords and lyrics video so you can play along and sing along if you like.
It's the best way to really nail a song and it's got all of the verses and choruses so
you can go right the way through.

Till next [G] time.
