_ Hi, Nick here.
Today in this video I'm going to show you how to play The Beatles I'll Cry
[N] Instead.
_ It's a really simple song so it's going to be a pretty short video I think.
The focus really on this tutorial is _ beat and rhythm.
So I'll show you in detail how
we get that sorted.
_ There's only a verse and a chorus, those are the only variations in
the song and I'll show you the outro right at the end.
_ Throughout the video there'll be chord shapes appearing down on the bottom right hand corner
of your screen.
_ Tab will be over here on the left.
_ _ _ _ There's some links at the end of the
video.
There's one that will take you to a chords and lyrics video with our cover playing
in the background so you can sing and play along.
It's a great way actually to nail _ _ the
song.
I've done it a few times _ with the video up to speed.
It's by far the best way to
get a song really sorted.
_ _ There's also links there to further tutorials in the series.
_ _ So let's get on with it, eh?
_ _ _ This song is all about [G#] the rhythm really.
It's a very simple _ beast to play.
[G] _ _ _ _
_ _ Let's show
you what it goes like for starters.
_ _ _ [C] [G] A _ [C] _
[G] _ _ [C] _ [G] _ _ [C] _ [G] _ _
[C] _ _ _ bit of slap back echo if you've [G] got it.
_ We're
going to be playing the _ G's and the C's as barre [C] chords.
_ _ [G] _ G is your standard F [C] shape,
C6 _ right the way across. _ _ _ _
And the [G] rhythm we're going to be doing.
_ So if you watch very carefully
this hand will be gripping and loosening its grip if you like to provide _ chords that ring
_ and chords that _ don't.
OK, so you go.
_ [C] _ _ [G] _ _ [C] _ _ [G] _
_ [Am] _ [G] _ _ _ So basically this hand is gripping on the first and the
third beat of the barre.
One, two, three, four. _
[Am] _ _ _ [G] _ [Am] _ _ [G] _ _
[C] _ _ [G] _ _ [C] _ _ [G] _ _
[C] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
[Am] _ [G] _ _ [C] _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ _ _ [C] _ _ [D] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ _ _ [Gm] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
[D] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ [Am] _ [G] _
_ [C] _ _ _ OK, so very [N] simple stuff.
It's all to do with the rhythm really.
[G] _ _ _
Let's try that up to speed.
Oh, the intro by the way is just a couple of bars.
_ [Am] _ _ [G] _ _ [Am] _
[G] _ _ [Am] _ _ [G] _ _ [Am] _
[G] OK, _ _ so four bars of G and C and then we'll get straight into verse one.
One, two, three,
four. _ _
[C] _ [G] _ _ [Am] _ _ [G] _ _ [Am] _
[G] _ _ [C] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ [Am] _ _ [A#] _ [G] _ [Am] _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ [G] _ _
[Am] _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Am] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ [Am] _ [G] _ _ [Am] _ [G] _ _ _
[G#] OK, so [D] those are your verses.
[F] Very straightforward stuff.
_ Then there's a bridge that repeats
a couple of times.
So let's have [Bm] a look at that. _ _ _
_ It goes [A] one, two, [Bm] three. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ [D] _ _ _ OK, _ _ _ shall we try that [Bm] together?
So B minor.
Again we're going to be in [F#] barre [A] position.
A seventh and open [D] D.
_ _ [E] Open E seventh, open [A] _
A, [D] open B. _ _
OK, [Em] let's try it together.
One, _ _
_ _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
two, three.
[E] _ Alright, _ [A] _
_ [C] _ [D] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
so that's pretty well the whole beastie except for the outro. _ _
So the outro is straight
off the end of a verse _ _ _ _ and _ all we're going to do right [C] at the end is go.
_ [B] _ [F#m] _ _ [G] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
So we're going
to [C] climb down from C, _ _ C, _ [B] _ _ _ _
B, _ [A] _ _ _ A, [F#] _ G sharp.
_ [G] Sorry, F sharp.
_ G.
And then we finish on a nice G
sixth. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ So let's try the [C] last [E] verse together [G] then. _ _ _
[A#] One, two, [Am] three.
_ [G] _ _ _
[C] _ [G] _ _ [C] _ _ [G] _ [C] _ _
[G] _ [C] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
[C] _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _
[C] Yeah, I'm a gonna break a man too.
I'll show you what your loving man can do.
[G] _ _
[D] Great, _ _ _ [G] _ [C] _ _
[G] _ _ [C] _ [G] _ _ [C] _ [D] _ _
_ [G] _ _ [C] _ _ [G] _ _ [C] _
[G] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
[F#m] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [N] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ I hope you got that.
_ _ _ Don't forget there's some links coming up in a minute.
One will
take you to a chords and lyrics _ _ video so you can play along and sing along if you like.
It's the best way to really nail a song and it's got all of the verses and choruses so
you can go right the way through. _
There's also a link to further tutorials in the series.

Till next [G] time.
