Hi, [F] and welcome to the first of [C] my series of tutorials teaching you how to play the
[A] 12 [C#] bar blues.
We're going to start the series with just [C] basic [Bm] chords and [C#] how to do the basic chords.
And as [G#] we move along, we'll be adding variations and we'll be turning it into some cool old time blues.
Alright, let's start by learning the chords that we're going to need.
We're going to need just three chords.
We're going to be playing E7, [E] [A] A7,
[Em] and [B] B7.
[E]
[C#] [E] First one was E7, played this way.
First finger, first fret on the G string.
[C#] Middle finger on the A string at the second [E] fret.
And that's it, everything else is open.
Okay, that's E7.
[Bm] The next [C] chord is going to be an [A] A7, [Em]
played [A] that way.
[Em] Now we're going to strum that from the [A] A string, like that.
[C] Now [B] I've got my ring finger on the B string at the second fret, [C#] and my middle finger on
the D string at the second [A] fret.
That's our A7 chord.
We're going to be using a very simple [Fm] B7.
Move those two fingers [Bm] up, [Em] like that, then bring in your first finger [E] on the D string
at the first fret.
So we've got [F] finger there, first fret on the D string, and the next [C] two [B] fingers, [F] second
fret on the A string, second fret [C] on the G string.
That's our B7.
We're going to leave [B] that open, [Em] down at the bottom, [B] because later we'll be punching this,
[C] [B]
[Em] we'll be moving [B] that [E] around to add some flavor to our 12 bar [B] blues.
Okay?
[Em] [B] And those are our three chords.
Alright?
[Fm] So let's get started with learning the basic 12 bar blues turnaround.
The basic 12 bar blues turnaround is going to [E] go this way.
B7, [A]
A7, [E] back to B7, [A]
A7,
[E] B7,
[B] B7,
[A] A7, [Bm] B7.
Then [B] vamp on the B7, [E] start it all over again.
And that's your complete turnaround.
We're going [Fm] to play E7 [E] for four beats.
[A] A7 for four beats, [Bm] E7, eight beats,
[A] A7, eight beats, [E] E7, eight beats, [B] B7 for four beats,
[A] A7 for four beats, [Bm] E7 for four beats, then back to [B] B7, one, two, three, [G] four, [E]
and we start it all over again.
Now [C#] that's our basic turnaround.
[A#] Now after you've got this down pat, [A] move to video two, [F] and we'll be doing some variations on the chords we just [C#] learned.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day.
