How to play Paradise by John Prine chords
Start Jamming...
[D] Daddy wants to [G] take me back to [D] Juneburg County down by the green [A] river where the [D] paradise lay.
I'm sorry my son, [G] but it's too [D] late now.
There's a Peabody's Gold [A] Train calling [D] away.
[N] A very popular song by John Prine called Paradise.
And this is how you play it.
Paradise is in the key of D, so we're going to start off with the D chord of course.
First finger, second fret, third string.
Second finger goes on the first string, second fret, so they're kind of right together in a line.
Then your third finger, your ring finger, is going to reach up on the second string
right in between them, so sort of a little triangle.
[F#] You're just going to play [D] the first four strings.
And then [N] the G chord, we're going to ignore our first finger, send our second finger over
to the fifth string, second fret.
Ring finger, third finger, over to the sixth string, third fret.
And then your pinky is going to reach kind of under those and get to the first string
on the third fret, so it looks like that.
[E] So you have four, four, [F#] and four.
[G] And then [N] you have the A chord.
It's going to go first finger, fourth string, second fret, second finger, third string,
second fret, and well they all go on the second fret.
So one, two, three, or rather four, three, two.
If that doesn't fit, you can skip your first finger again and use these three fingers.
Or if you want to do it the easy way, just put one finger across all three and mute the E string.
[A] You're going to play four, because you start off on the A string of course.
And that's the three chords you need to play Paradise.
[A#] The strumming pattern for Paradise is fairly straightforward.
[D] The [G]
[D] [A]
[D] [N] strumming pattern for Paradise is sort of a 6-8 or 12-8, so it's going to be a three feel.
You're going to go [A] one, two, three, one, [D] two, three.
One, [G] two.
[D] One, two, three, one, [A] two, three, one, two.
[D] Okay, like that.
Except we're also going to hit the strings going up.
So it's going to go
[G] [D]
[A#] You can get away with just that.
Or if you'd rather, you can [D] play the root note.
[G]
[D] All I'm doing is, instead of strawing, I'm hitting the string that's the name of the
note, the D string.
The G string, [G] or the E with a G played on it.
[A] Or the A.
When [D]
I was a child [G] my [D] family would travel
Down to western [A] Kentucky where my parents [D] were born
There's a black, quick old town [G] that's [D] often remembered
So many [A] times that my memories [D] are worn
Daddy won't you take [G] me back to [D] Bulenburg County
Down by the green river [A] where paradise [D] lay
Sorry my son but [G] you're too [D] late in asking
Keep on your [A] cold train I'm calling [D] away
