How to Play "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by The Beatles on Guitar chords
Start Jamming...
What's up guys?
This is [A#m] Jen.
We are going to be learning While My Guitar Gently Weeps
by The Beatles off of one of my favorite albums, their White Album.
This is just going to be
the [A#] acoustic part, the rhythm part, in this video.
But at Mahalo we're going to be doing
the entire Beatles catalog, so stay tuned for the lead of While My Guitar Gently Weeps
because we're definitely going to be doing that.
But in this video, just [Am] the rhythm part
if you want to sing along and have a good time.
Okay?
A minor, A minor over G, which
I love, it's a little bit of a stretch.
[D]
D over F sharp, which is my [A#] favorite chord right
now, [Am] to F major 7.
We've got A minor to [G]
G to [D] D to [E] E.
Now you play that progression twice
and then [C] the third time it changes just slightly, but we'll talk about that when it goes into
the chorus.
The [Am] strumming for it is 1, 2, 3 and 4 and 1, 2, 3 [D] and 4 and 1, 2, 3 and
4 [Am] and 1, 2, 3 and 4 and 1.
Or we say down, down, down, [G] up, down, up, down, down, down,
[D] up, down, up, down, down, [A] down, up, [E] down, up, down, down, down, up, down, up.
Now [F] in
the verse part before we get into the chorus there's only one difference.
You go [Am] along,
you do the A minor, A minor [D] over G, D [Am] over F sharp, F major 7, [G] A minor, G, but when he
says, I'll tell [C] you gently, just go to C instead of [E] D and then E.
So the only difference is
that last D in the verse changed to a C.
You'll hear it because if you play a D over it, it's
not going to sound [C] right.
So you'll know what I'm talking about.
But just go to that
C.
[E] Now we're going into the key [A] of A major, which I love.
The strumming changes slightly.
We're going to go down, down, what am I doing?
1, 2 and 3 and 4 and on [C#m] A.
C sharp minor,
[F#m] F sharp minor, [F#]
[C#m] C sharp minor, B [Bm] minor, [E]
no I just said E minor, didn't I?
E major,
B minor to E major.
Yep, that's right, that's right.
[A] So A, [C#m] F [F#m] sharp minor, [C#m] [Bm] B minor,
stay on B minor, [E] E major, repeat that.
[A] [C#m] C sharp [F#m] minor, F sharp [C#m] minor, back to C sharp minor,
[Bm] B minor.
[E]
[A#] And those are the only two parts to the song.
Now, I'm saying it's simple not to simplify
the awesomeness of the Beatles or the awesomeness of this [Am] song, but to show you that there's not a
ton of stuff [A#] happening.
It's not all these crazy things that you can't get down because you're [Am] not
the Beatles.
No, you didn't write it.
The genius [D] was in their writing and then their playing,
but you can play these [Am] chords.
You can do this.
It's only two parts [A#] for this rhythm.
Again,
we're not going to get into the solo right now.
We're going to have a separate video [A] just for
the lead [A#] stuff, which I'm probably going to do and I'm very excited about, even though I think
it's going to kick my butt, but I think it's going to be good.
So let me know if you have questions.
Do the rhythms like I say, but if it's a little too difficult, [G#] simplify, simplify, simplify.
So
if you just [Am] want to do down strokes, [C] all down strokes, [D]
[Am] you can totally do that.
Same [A] thing for
the chorus.
[C#m] [F#m]
I'm just doing all down strokes.
[A#] Simplify, simplify, but make it happen.
Let me
know what you think about this video.
We love your feedback, good, bad, or ugly.
We love to
know how we're doing on these videos.
So boom, that's it.
Go play.
