I'm Yours (NEW! Turn on CC for chords and lyrics) | Beginner Ukulele Lesson #2: Backbeat Strum chords
Start Jamming...
Hey everyone, here's a beginner uke tutorial for I'm Yours by Jason Mraz
So let's run through our chords.
We have C
[C]
G
[G] A minor
[Am]
F
[F]
And we [C] hit a D.
See if you [Abm] can stack those fingers for the [D] D
Good.
Now [E] let's run through those [C] again C
[G] G A [Am] minor
F
[F] Stack for the [D] D
Good.
Most [Ab] of the song is just running through those first four chords
So we're gonna try a backbeat strum, which sounds like this and we'll take it nice and slow
So like one two, one two, one two, [C] one two on the C
one two, one two, one two, one two, one two, one two
Just a heavier strum on the two.
Let's try it on the G
[G] one two, one two, one two, one two
Try it on the A minor
[F] [Am] one two, one two, one two, one two
And on the F
[F]
one two, one two, one two, one two
[C] So if that [G] backbeat, that extra beat, [Am] extra [Ab] strum feels a little bit too much, you could just [C] play single chords
I mean single strums on the chord.
[G]
If you can get comfortable [Am] enough to add that
extra strum
[F] So that's the timing.
We're playing kind [C] of four sets of those strums [N] for each chord.
So let's try running through that on the C two [F] three [C] four G
[G]
A [Am] minor F
[F] One more round [C] C
[G] G
Three four A [Am] minor two three four [F] F two three four
Okay, I think we're ready for the song so
Depending on your level you [C] can just change chords on the single strums
[G] You can try that backbeat strum, which is kind of like a reggae beat
[Ab] You could try singing along with me too.
And if you're really fancy, you could try this slide at the beginning
So if you go with your C
Finger position start on that third fret just pluck it and slide it up to the fifth fret
[C]
Yeah, one word's a
[Eb] little fun thing.
You can try.
All right, so let's count it in and then we'll go with that same
round of chords
Here's the [F] song ready?
One two three
[C]
[G] G A [Am] minor
F.
[F]
Let's do another round C [C]
G
[G] A [Am] minor
[F] Start singing here on the C
[C] Well, you done done me
And you bet I felt [G] it
G I tried to be chill but you're so hot that I melted
[Am] A minor I fell right through the cracks F
And [F] I'm trying to get [C] back
See if the cool done run that I be giving in my bestest [G] G
Nothing's gonna stop me but divine intervention
[Am] I reckon it's again my turn
F [F] to win some or learn some [C] C
But I won't [G] hesitate
No more no [Am] a minor more it cannot [F] F wait I'm [C] yours
I'm gonna stop calling out [G] chords now
Just [Am] remember the pattern
[F]
Here we go with a verse
[C] Well open up your mind and see like [G] me
Open up your plans and damn [Am] you're free
Look into your heart and you'll [F] find love
Love [C] listen to the music of the moment people dance [G] and sing
We're just one big [Am] family
And it's our God forsaken right to be [F] loved
Love love love love
Here's [D] the D love [G] Chorus
[Ab] [C] But I won't [G] hesitate
No more no [Am] more
It cannot [F] wait
I'm sure [C] there's no need to [G] complicate
Our time [Am] is short
This is [F] our fate I'm [C] yours
[G]
[Am]
Last [F]
verse
I've [C] been spending way too long checking my tongue
[G] I'm bending over backwards
Just to try to see it clear
[Am] But my breath fogged up the glass
So [F] I drew a new face
And I laughed
[C] I guess what I'll be saying is
There ain't no better reason
[G] To rid yourself of enemies
And just go with the seasons
[Am] It's what we aim to do
[F] Our name is our virtue
[C] So I won't [G] hesitate
No more no [Am]
more
It cannot [F]
wait
[C] I'm yours
Well open up your mind and see like [G] me
Open up your plans and damn [Am] you're free
Look into your heart and you'll [F] find
The sky is yours
[C] So please don't please don't please don't
There's [G] no need to complicate
Cause our [Am] time is short
This this this is [F] our fate
I'm yours
Here's that D again [D] Yours That's [E]
