_ to [C] the realization that music _ _ [G] _
was a part of your _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ life?
Slow [C] Boat was a song that was going to _ be_
that was considered for Crazy Heart.
It was based on a title in the [G] book _ Crazy Heart by Thomas Cobb.
And it was just a title, there were [C] no lyrics or [A] anything.
_ _ [Bb] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [A] So [G] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ _ [G] that _ [C] _ [G] came around that way.
And the other _ songs_ _
[C] Falling Short, that might be [Em] 30 years [G] old or so.
That's one of the fun things about [D] _ [G] making an album and working on your music.
You get to kind of mine all the different songs that you've liked over the years.
And you could realize them.
A [F] lot of fun.

_ _ _ _ [G] When Crazy Heart first came _ _ down the road for me_
there was no music attached to it.
And while it was a wonderful script, it really wouldn't have made it a good movie if the music wasn't any good.
So I told the guys, come back once you've got the music handled.
_ And then I ran into my buddy T-Bone Burnett.
_ And he said, what do you think about this Crazy Heart movie?
And I said, why, are you interested in that?
He said, if you are, I am.
I said, oh, well, come on, let's go.
And that's kind of how it happened.
I met T-Bone about 30 years ago on Heaven's Gate.
_ And Chris Christopherson brought all his music buddies, or a lot of them, to play parts in that movie.
We had [Em] Ronnie Hawkins and Norton Buffalo and Stephen Bruton [G] _
and T-Bone.
_ And when we weren't making the movie, we were picking and playing.
We had a great time. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ All the great _ bands around that time, Bob Dylan and The Beatles,
it was all kind of guitar related, _ and Chuck Berry and all of that.
_ _ _ And _ the thing about the guitar is you can carry it around with you.
You can take it on [Em] location [F] and [Em] play.
And [G] _
how you play the different chords,
they're just pictures of where [Em] you put your fingers [F] with those dots [Em] and those lines.
[G] So it's pretty easy to teach yourself.
_ And I guess [C] that's kind of why the guitar and [F] I hit it [Em] off basically.
_ [G] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ [F] _ _ [Em] _ _ [D] _ _
Yeah, God, that's a beautiful guitar.
[Bb] _ _
Stephen _ _ Bruton, [G] _
a wonderful singer, songwriter, [C] _ _
_ musical magician.
I don't even got a lot of titles for that guy.
_ _ [Dm] Dear friend of T [Eb]-Bone's.
[G] T-Bone and Stephen grew up together [Gm] in Fort Worth. _
And when it came down to looking [F] for the kind of guitar [C] _
_ that [G] Bad Boy was going to have,
we started to look around. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ Scott [C] Cooper [Bb] is friends with Merle Haggard.
And he asked [C] Merle if he could have any guitar, what guitar would he say?
[Gm] Country Gentleman. _
[G] So that was one [Ebm] reason.
But we tried [C] Talley's.
That's another [Gm] _ _ classic [E] country [D] guitar. _
And _ we just settled [Bb] on that Country Gentleman.
It was so [D] _
_ _ great.
I'm more of an acoustic [Bb] player myself.
_ _ _ But when I [G] picked up that _ _ Gretsch, man, [E] I was all done.
I said, this is the guitar for [G] me.
_ Oh, the tone is so cool.
Oh, yeah.
[C] _
I'm not one to know all the particulars about why [G] it sounds like [D] that.
I got buddies [G] who are into all that.
But man, my [C] ears are loving it, I'll tell you.
