[C] This was the dream guitar, the first dream guitar, because you [E] can play really good on this.
If
[G] [E] [G] [E]
you don't want to play very [G] fast leads or something.
[A] [G]
But my favorite, the single cutaway brown, the original Country [F] Gentleman.
That's what I think I got to see the demo of from Chet.
And also Chet did fingerpicking like I wanted to.
[G] [C]
[G] [C] [Dm]
[C] [G]
[Gm] [Cm] You can do [G] that on a Gretsch perfectly.
And my age was leaping into that and they were all emulating.
Somebody would see Doc Watson and steal it and then pass it on.
And that's pretty much the way it worked back then.
[A] [Em] [C]
Nothing else can do this right here.
[E]
[Am] [G] [Em]
[Am] [Bm] And it has to do with the Bigsby and the characteristics of it and [Em] these pickups.
[G] But you can't play it that loud.
It sounds best [C] when you don't have [G] the upholstered covered.
[F] [C]
[Bb] [Bm] When I first saw it I liked the [Em] woody ones, you know, the orange one.
The white falcon [G] was much too fancy and gauche for me.
And it's [Gm] just got a tone to it because of the size of the body.
[C] [G] I mean even the neck feels better.
[A] [Em]
[A] [Em] [C]
[G] [Em]
[C] [Gm]
That's the Buffalo Springfield sound, because the Gretsch on the record was [Cm] an orange one.
But they got swiped at [G] the whiskey.
[A] [G]
[D]
[Em] Well it's old and it spent 30 years on the road with me.
The flash of this actually, Neil talked me into it.
As much because [A] we found two good ones and it was the look of [Dm] two white [Em] falcons on either end of the stage.
The managers didn't want to do it because they thought it was going to be worthless.
And the roadies didn't want to do it because they couldn't figure out how to get together there.
So Crosby and I got off the plane at LaGuardia.
And the gear was in, we had the [A] basic amps and guitars in.
You know, we checked them and [Em] they brought them to [A] LaGuardia.
And we got everything put together and said,
Okay, you take one phone booth, I'm going to take the other.
Look under [E] airplane.
We need [A] two, you know, king heirs.
[Em] One for the gear and one for us to get us from here to White Plains.
And then the choppers will take us in.
And we left the gear [Gb] on the tarmac at White Plains [E] in a truck.
And it made, the gear made the show by about 20 minutes.
[A] It's indescribable.
It's got this beautiful round, you know, big tone and stuff.
You can do anything with this really.
Except play like a Fender.
Because the volume knob is in the wrong place.
But it's really good for ending a song and going.
[Bb] [G]
[E] You can [A] turn it off.
[Abm] [Gbm] [E] [Em]
