Welcome to my Tuesday afternoon video series.
Each week I share a live performance
from my nights tour with [C] all of you.
[D] [C]
In the late spring [N] and early summer of 1967,
we'd already had the idea, I don't know whose it was,
and to do the story of the day in the life of one guy,
to do a kind of stage show, which we were lucky enough,
actually became an album,
about different times of the day, going through the day.
And Mike had written Dawn Is a Feeling,
and I'd already done Nights in White Satin,
so that was that.
And then John had the peak hour at lunchtime
and Ray the morning.
But then I thought, oh, the afternoon's free.
So I went to this lovely place
that was always very special to me,
kind of lover's lane,
outside where I come from in Wiltshire.
And it's called Lydiard, Lydiard Park,
and Lydiard, there's a mansion there as well, very posh.
But you could walk in the grounds freely.
And I went out there with my guitar,
and also I had a little dog called Tuesday.
And I just sat in a field and wrote this little song.
And when it was recorded,
I never thought for a moment that it would be a single,
but in the United States,
they didn't fancy Nights in White Satin as the single
from the Days of Future Past album.
So they chose Tuesday afternoon,
and they made it like about one minute, 50 seconds long,
so that they could just [G] do,
da-da-da-da-da-da, and pull the fader down at the end.
It's called an American Fade.
And here is our version of Tuesday afternoon.
