[E] right, in this lesson we're going to look at the basic melody for Kentucky Waltz.
It's
a great waltz in the key of D.
Good simple waltz to start on.
So if you're not up for
advanced melodies, beginner player, [F#m] this is a great waltz to start on.
So let's get started.
I'll play the first little bit.
It starts on the A string.
[A#]
[A#m] [A#] [C]
[F#] [N] So you walk up to a third
finger on [D] the D note and then walk back down.
[A#]
[A#m] [A#]
You pause on your A string again.
[A#m]
[A#] [C] [F#]
[C] So I doubled
up on that G note, that third finger on the D string.
[F#]
[Cm] You go 3 3 1 and then back up to
your 2.
And then you repeat that kind of a phrasing, but you end it [A] slightly differently.
[A#] [A#m] [B] [F#m]
[F#] [E]
[A#] So that walk down is
[A#m] [B] [A#] [F#]
[E] [A#]
2 1 open 1 1.
All right, in this lesson we're going to look at the
advanced melody for Kentucky Waltz.
Great song under the key of D.
I'll be playing a
bunch of double stops and showing you how to do those.
And some third position and second
position licks.
An aug scale, an augmented scale, so [D] that's a little different.
Some
trills.
So this is definitely, once we take that basic melody, we can do a lot with it.
I'll show you some different versions and different licks to put in this.
So we'll get
started with some drones on the D string and play the melody over that.
[A] [F#m]
So I'm playing
the regular melody, I'm just playing open A and open D when I'm not on those strings.
[D] Again.
[A] [F#m] [A#]
And I am changing the melody up a little bit from the basic.
[F#] [F#m] [C]
[F#]

[A#]
[F#] [Am]
Keep going.
[F#] [D]
[Am]
[D] So there,
[Dm] [D] I went over and caught a fourth finger A note.
[Am]
[F#]
[E] [A#]
And [F#m] just drone with an open
D, or an open A.
[A]
[A#] Okay, [G#] [F#] so keep going.
[D] [A#]
[D#]
So [Am] right there.
[A#]
So I'm barring across first finger
D and A and bringing that second finger up.
[D] [Gm]
Right [F#m] there I'm playing open A and a third
finger on the D [A] string.
[A#]
So right here, this double [E] stop.
[C#m] [Bm] You're going down and catching
a fourth or third finger high.
