Alright, in this lesson we're going to look at Ukepick Waltz, the basic melody.
This is
a great tune.
It's sometimes called Canadian Waltz, depending on what circles you play
in.
So you may know it by that name.
But we're going to break it apart just on a basic melody
level.
It's out of the key of G.
It does a lot in E minor as well.
So be familiar with
an E minor scale, work on that.
But we'll start off with the beginning run.
It starts
off on the D string and it walks up to a third finger.
[G] [F#m]
[G]
Okay, so I'm walking up, [G#]
open [Bm] 1, 2,
3.
[G]
Now, [D]
[Em] [G]
I'm not going to break the slurs down on this because there's a bunch of different
ways to do it.
[G#] [G] But I am putting slurs in.
And so, continuing on from that walk up to
the third finger.
Okay, 2, 3, and I'm doing a slur, up to a first finger on the A string.
Okay, and then [D] the next lick is
[Em] [G] that [F#m] second lick.
So open A and a high 2 on your D.
[D] [E] [G]
Come
up to a first finger and back up to your third finger to resolve.
And then 2, 3.
A
little ornamentation there.
One more time from the beginning.
[F#] [G]
[D] [Em]
[G]
Okay, we're going to continue
that same idea from there on the A string.
Okay, we're going to go up and catch an [F#m] E
note.
[G#]
Alright, in this lesson we're going to look at an advanced melody for Ukepick
Waltz, also known as Canadian Waltz.
A lot of double stops, some trills, slides, fun
stuff, third position.
So let's get started.
I'll play the first part and then this is
thinking that you've already worked through the basic melody or already know the song.
So I'll work through it and play through it and then break it down phrase by phrase.
I
won't cover the basic melody in this lesson.
So here we go.
Here's some extra stuff for
Ukepick Waltz.
[G]
[D] [Em] [Bm] [G]
[Em] [F] So, [G] breaking that down, we're doing double stops here on the G string.
[D]
[Em] [G] And
when I transition up, up to that first finger right there, I'm playing a double stop on
the A and D string, keeping my third finger down.
[D]
Open A and D.
[E] And that right there,
the lick [D] I'm playing.
[E] [F#] Okay, so breaking that down.
[G#]
Slide up to the 2 and [C] then [E] you're going
to break down and go down to an F natural note.
[F#]
[E] [Em] When [D]
[Em] you come back up to the 1, slide
it across both A and D.
[Bm] [Em]
Okay, so from here, [Bm]
[Em] did a trill.
[Bm]
[Em] Down bow on the first finger.
[Bm] [E] [F#] [G]
[Cm] [Em] And I'm using a fourth finger drone.
I'm also adding in an E flat note.
[G#] A [G] syncopation getting
to that note.
[Am]
[G]
Okay, so let's play that much.
Okay, pretty slowly.
[D] [Em] [Bm]
[G] [Am]
[G]
[G#] Okay, so here.
[Gm]
[F#] [G] [Bm]
Trill.
First finger, second finger.
[F#m] [B]
[Bm]
[D]
[G] [D]
[Bm] [G]
