Start Jamming...
Today we're going to learn Led Zeppelin's Kashmir on acoustic guitar.
We're going to play it in first position.
We're not going to use a capo.
We're not going to detune.
Okay, this is a whole new way to play it.
It's real easy.
We're going to use basic chords to get Kashmir played.
So if you're with me, let's get started and this is how we're going to do it.
[D]
[G] [D] [F] [C]
[F] [C] [G] [Gm] [F] [G]
[D] [F] [C] [Bb] [C] [G] [F]
[B] [D] Let's get going with this Kashmir by Led Zeppelin.
We're going to be playing at the second fret with our first finger and we're just going
to take the D string, play it open.
That's right.
Now I'm going to be pinching my strings with my fingers like that.
Now you can play it with your pick if you like, but I [C] like that because I hear [D] both
strings at once like [A] [N] that.
Now we're just simply going to move up.
We're going to use the D and the G string.
We're simply going to park here at the A note on the G string and move up the neck one note
at a time.
Okay, so [D] it's like this.
So [N] that's a D note and an A note and then [Bb] A sharp.
Still keeping that D note.
[D] B, C, [G] all the way up to [D] D, then back down to A.
Okay, now [N] the interesting thing about this tune is the way that [G] they're using the triplets.
So we're going [D] one, two, [A] three, right?
And then we're going to, [Eb] most of the time we're [D] going to do doubles.
Two triplets, right?
[N] Okay, but now the way the order of the song goes, we do two [D] starting out.
[Bb] And two,
[Eb] [D] two, two, one at D, then back down.
One, two there, two, one at the D, one at the A, then two again.
And [Bb] you're always going to do one, after you've done the very first one, you're always going
to do one at A and one up [D] here at high D.
Okay?
It's sounding the D string the whole time.
So [Ab] that's the way that works.
That goes on [D] until the change comes.
Now the change [N] is very simple too.
We're going to use basic chords down here in the first position.
We're going to [G] use G, D, [D] [F] F, [C] C, B [Bb] flat, [F] F, [C]
C, [G] G, B [Bb] flat, [F] F, and then our note.
[Dm] And that note [Am] there is an F, [F] [E] E, and [Dm] open D.
So [N] that's right.
[F] F, [E] E, [D] open D.
[Cm] So this is the way the chords are [G] played.
G, [D] D, [Am]
F, [C] C.
[Bb] [Am] [Bb] So you've got to get your B flat and [Gm] your F pretty quickly.
[C] Then C, [G] G, [Bb] B flat, [F] and your [D] notes.
[N] Like that.
Okay, now the [Bb] B flat, I'm making B flat by simply doing this.
It's really a B flat six.
Like [F] that.
So there's a B flat chord we're after, [Bb] but a B flat six is okay.
Okay?
[F] F, textbook F.
So we've got, that's the only chord [Ab] that's, you know, not [Bb] right out of the box, that B
flat right there.
[G] Okay?
So we've got,
[D] [Am] [C] [Bb] [A] [C] [G]
[Bb] [F] [D] [G] [D]
[F] [C] [Bb] [C] [G] [Bb]
[F] [Bm] I thought [N] that was pretty cool.
[G] Just playing chords right here in the first position.
[A] I think most folks are trying to learn how to play that song, and they're all over the
place trying to find chords, [Ab] detuning the guitar, trying to work out ways to play it
when it's pretty easy on an acoustic, just [G] playing it with a G, [D] D, [Em] F, [F] [C] C, [Bb] B flat, [F] [C] F, C,
[G] G, [Bb] B flat, [F] F, [E] and [F] then [E] F, E, [D] D.
And that's Cashmere on acoustic guitar.
Hope you have fun with this one.
