Start Jamming...
Long Train Running by the Doobie Brothers.
The song is in standard tuning.
So when playing it on acoustic, you can obviously play it
the way that you would play [Bb] it on electric.
[Dm]
[Gm] But when you're doing an acoustic gig,
the fewer bar chords you can get away with, the better.
So, easier way to play it, put a capo on the third fret.
Then I'll show you the chords,
and then I'll show you how we're gonna play them.
So you've got an E minor,
an [Cm] A minor,
[Eb] a C,
[D] and a B.
[Gm] So the way we're gonna play this,
the E minor, we're gonna start by strumming all the strings
[N]
without putting it down,
and then we're gonna hammer down into [Gm] the E minor.
And then at the end, we're gonna pull that off.
[Am] So my right hand is pretty much going all the time
except [Gm] for the
at the end.
[Cm] Then we're gonna go into an A minor.
Then again, gonna take that off,
and then [Bb] hammer that chord [Cm] down.
[Bb] Then [Gm] back into the E minor,
into
[Eb]
the C,
[C] then into [D] the B,
[N] and then back into the [Gm] E minor.
So, put those together slowly.
[Cm]
[Gm]
[Eb]
[D]
[Gm]
[E]
And that is the main body of chords.
Then you've got [Bb] that
[N] little lick.
So we're up here on the seventh fret of the D string.
So technically seven, including the capo, it's four.
[B] So we're gonna play seven, [Gb] eight.
Then move [N] on to the B string,
and we're gonna play eight, six,
[Bb] and [D] then seven [N] of the G string.
[Gm]
[Bb]
[D] And [Eb] [F]
that's how to play long-term running on acoustic.
