Hi, this is TJ with Piano Clubhouse and today I'm going to show you how to play Lord You're Mighty by Youthful Praise.
The song is in the key of D flat.
D flat has the notes of the scale of D flat, [F] E flat, F, [F#] G flat, [A#] A flat, B flat, [C] C, [C#] and D flat.
This is a simple song to play.
There's actually [N] really only two sections to the song and all the sections that we're going to be learning all pretty much share four chords.
I'm going to teach you pretty much four chords, maybe five, and you'll have this whole song down.
Really easy song, a lot simpler than it sounds on the recording.
So let's get started learning these chords.
Introduction.
[C#]
[B] [F#]
[C#]
[G#] Alright, so we're going to start out with an A flat sus chord in the right.
A flat, D flat, E flat, and A flat.
Left hand for the introduction is [C#] just going to ride this D flat.
So the first chord is A flat sus over D flat.
Second chord, left hand stays on D flat, right hand is going to go to a B major seventh.
[B]
Okay, I was here.
The movement, I pretty much just shifted, transformed my fingers to go here.
My [A#m] second finger is playing this B flat.
My thumb is kind of reaching under this finger [B] and playing this B right here.
[A#] Okay, so B [A#] flat, B, E [B] flat, and G flat.
This is our B major seventh chord.
[C#] Okay, so first chord, second [B] chord, third chord.
These two [C#] fingers are going to stay.
Matter of fact, the third chord, all we're going to do is lift up this B, and we need to add this D flat.
Okay, so instead of trying to lift this B and reach over [C#] or reach under to push it, we're just going to [A#m] shift this over.
Shift this finger over to [C#] D flat, lower [A#m] this B down to B flat.
So now [D#m] we're on these four notes, B flat, [F#]
D flat, [D#m] E flat, and G flat.
This is all [C#] still over D flat.
The introduction, the left hand stays on the D flat.
So every chord I'm showing you, the left hand is playing D flat.
Okay, so first chord, A flat sus.
Second [B] chord, B major seventh.
[F#] Third chord, this is really a G flat major chord.
That's a G flat major.
And I'm adding [F#] in that D flat to it.
Okay, [C#] and then the last chord, real simple movement.
These two fingers are going to stay put, the D flat and E flat.
These outside two are going to move to the left [D#]
one note of the scale [F#] from here [C#] down to here.
[F#] The G flat moved [A#] to F, B flat [D#] moved to A flat.
Okay, let's go through those four chords.
That's the introduction, and that's half of the song.
Okay, Lord Almighty.
[B] B major seventh, [F#] G flat major with six.
[C#] And this is really just a D flat major chord.
D flat, F, and A flat are your D flat major chords.
And I'm [A#] adding this E flat to it.
[D#m] Adding the second note of the scale.
Okay, one more time.
Lord [C#]
Almighty.
All right, sus chord first.
Lord Almighty.
[B] [F#]
[C#] So a couple things you can do in there to spice it up.
As you're playing the chords, you can play octaves to kind of fill up the space.
Lord Almighty.
[B] Lord Almighty.
When you're on this B major seventh, a nice move to do [F#] is just play the outside three notes.
B flat, B, D flat.
Skip this E flat.
Just play it in order from left to right.
Okay.
Lord [C#] Almighty.
[B] [F#]
[C#] One more way you can do that.
[F#]
Okay, so right there, instead of [B] playing them in order like that, I played them at the same time.
Okay, kind of gives the same [F#] notes of the chord, but gives it a different feel when you play it together as opposed to broken up.
Okay, so again, slowly from the beginning.
Lord [C#] Almighty.
[F#]
[C#]
[B]
[F#]
[C#] Okay, and then once the verse kind of progresses on, the left hand starts to build up a little bit.
The [C#m] right hand will do the same thing.
The left hand will progress to.
[B] [F#]
[C#]
Okay, so that's the introduction.
Let's [C] move on to the verse.
Right hand is going to be playing.
Matter of fact, let me show you the left hand first.
Okay.
[C#]
D flat, [G#] A flat.
D flat is your name.
[B] G [F#]
flat.
And it repeats those four notes over and over [C#] again.
D flat, A [G#] flat, [B] B flat, G [F#] flat.
That's the pattern.
Repeat it.
[C#]
A flat, [G#] four notes.
Here's the [B] third.
B, [F#] G flat.
Right hand, we're playing chords I've already shown you, just with a little different twist.
A flat sus is [C#] first.
Second chord is the exact same we did before.
The B major 7.
[C#m] Now the left hand moves to the A flat like I showed you.
[C#] Okay, so from the beginning of the verse.
Oh Lord, how.
[G#m] When the left hand goes to B, we can leave this right hand right here on this B major 7.
It doesn't even have to change.
The only left hand is your [B] name.
Then when the left hand goes to G flat, we'll go to [F#] that third chord I showed you in the introduction.
B flat, D flat, E flat, and G flat.
And what you can do, you can even play it here.
You can play it.
Matter of fact, I think I like this one better where we come down and play it here with the G flat and the root.
So let's do a G flat major with that A flat.
I like the sound of that better.
So from the beginning of the [G#] verse again.
[G#m]
Leave this here.
When the left hand goes to [B] B, you're getting [F#] [C#]
back to the A flat sus repeat.
[G#m] [B]
[F#]
[C#] [G#m]
