[G] [A] [D] You know, when people think of American bands, you have [G] to place Los [D] Lobos as one of the
top five bands [G] in America.
[A] [D] They have [G] this corazon.
[A] [D] They play with art.
[G] [A] They're Los [D] Lobos.
They're badass.
It's just us.
[G] [A]
[D] Los Lobos has been called the quintessential American [G] rock and roll band because they represent
so many different elements of what America is and what rock and roll [Ab] music is.
They [A] [Eb] took all the elements [B] of the music that they had soaked [G] up as kids [A] and made something
new out of it.
[G] And we went on tour with them, [Fm] so we played some pretty big shows [Gm] with them and became
very close friends and got to know them very well.
Not [C] only began this great [Gm] friendship, but so much admiration for their talent, their
music, and what it meant to us as Chicanos.
To see that their work has transcended genres, transcended time, it gives you so much [C] inspiration
to know that [Gm] there's so much out there for you in the world that you can experience through
[D] music, [G] through culture, and also never lose the essence of who you [F] are.
Without a band like Los Lobos having done what they did, [G] there wouldn't be bands like [C] us.
[E] Being these Chicanos, [Gm] Mexico [F] Americanos, playing El [E] Canelo, [Am] playing Sabor a Mi, and [D] playing
traditional music [Dm] so well [Am] just makes me feel [C] proud.
[E] [A] [Am]

Maestro, Flaco Jimenez.
[Db]
[Gb] Whatever you want with Los Lobos, you're going to get [G] it.
[D] What I think about Los Lobos, [G] they are very versatile.
[D]
You know, the crossover that they do, man.
[G] And you know, singing in English and Spanish, rock and roll, the versatility of what they
do is amazing.
The first time I played with Los Lobos was [N] Austin City Limits.
I mean, it was fun doing it, [C] man.
I mean, so open.
[G] With Los Lobos, you can breathe [D] easily and [F] no [G] pressure at all.
[D]
[G] Of course, David Hidalgo, [D]
he's my hero, [G] man.
He's a [Am] guitar player.
[G] All the guys, man, the whole band, Los Lobos, [D] they're our heroes.
[G] They're a band that, they're not imitators, they're creators.

[E] Those were natural, we didn't have any hair dye back then.
[F] That was all natural.
[B]
[Eb] We were on it right there.
We'd been playing it, [B] so we were, you know, we weren't rusty, we were happy, we were on
our game at [Em] that time.
We just [B] got into the music and we thought, well, this is our [E] stuff.
So we had dreams [B] of taking it out and sharing it with the world.
And you know, gratefully, we were [Dbm] able to do [A] some of that.
[B] [G]
[E] We're like the accidental rock stars.
We never planned to do [Eb] what we've [E] done and what we [A] did.
[Eb] Certainly when we started playing Mexican [A] music, it was kind of unusual for young people
to be [B] playing that sort of music, because [E] that was music that [B]
our parents listened to.
[E] How could [A] a band that [B] plays traditional [E] music [Eb] end up with a number one hit or something?
Which only, [E] we were totally proven wrong, because in 1987, we had a [B] worldwide hit of
La Bamba, which was a traditional Mexican song.
And we never really took that lightly.
[E] At that point, we realized that we had a certain degree of responsibility.
And we couldn't just bask in the [B] glow of this rock star [Em]-ness or anything like that.
We thought [B] that we need to do something with this.
[Em] We did things that [B] really moved the focus to [E] not just these four [A] guys who are Mexican [B]-American,
but to the entire culture.
[E] [B]

[Gm]
[C] Well, I [Gm] want to congratulate Los Lobos.
I really am proud of the guys.
And so, [G] guys, keep on going.
[Bbm] [G]
It's well-deserved, and it makes us proud.
[Gb]
[C] [F] They paved the way for [D] bands like us to be able to celebrate where we [G] come from,
to experiment, to learn how to [C] play traditional music, but to also say,
hey, we're American, and we like to rock and roll, we like to rock out.
They're [Bb] the masters, you know?
[Dbm] The dads of [Ab] the chicks.
