What's up everybody this [G] is Ayy Naka and you are watching [F#] Ukulele Remix.
In this video we're going to talk about [B] the difference between low [G] G and high G and [Em] also
the difference between [F] wound and [E] unwound low G's.
So basically for all the videos that we're going to be posting for Ukulele [Em] Remix, I'm
going to be using a low G.
[C] [Am] [E] Most traditional ukuleles come with a high G which sounds like this.
[C]
You can tell you've got high G [F] if the G [Em] string or the string that's closest to you when you
hold it and you can tell by feeling it [C] is thinner than the one [E] right below it.
For those of you familiar with piano this is what it [E] looks like.
The G string is tuned to a G note [F#] and then your C [C] is lower than that.
Then [Am] E then A is higher than the G.
[E] Now if your ukulele is strung low G [C] then [Am] [E] your G should [F] be about the same thickness [E] or thicker
than your C string.
If you're familiar with piano [G] the notes go G C [Em] E A in order from low to high.
[Em] This should give you a little more bass and a few extra [E] lower notes to play with.
So if you have an ukulele that's strung with a high G but you want to change it to low
G all you have to do is change that one string and the rest will be the same.
Now the difference between wound and unwound low G's is pretty simple.
An unwound low G will look just like the rest of your string.
[G]
[E] But a wound low G will look more like an acoustic guitar string with a metal coating on [G] it.
Now [E] the advantage to having a wound string is that it projects more because it has more tension.
[G]
But it'll have a slightly [B] different tone than the rest of your strings and when you slide
on it it'll have that squeaky tone like an [E] acoustic guitar.
[G#m]
Because an unwound string is just like the rest [Em] of your other strings it is a little
softer but it'll sound a little more balanced.
[E] If you like the string setup that I've got on my [F] Kamoa you can buy [E] the individual strings
online or as a pack on [F] ukuleleremix.com.
Thanks for watching guys!
