Hi, this is a quick review of the Morgan Monroe MAM200 for those who asked.
I'm going to [Ab] play a song, so bear with me or fast forward.
Mahogany, top, sides, back, solid mahogany all the way around, no binding.
The wood grade is okay.
It's got some basic little sapwood around the edge of top and matched on the bottom, which I thought was nice of them.
I don't really mind it, I think it's cool.
The fretboard and the bridge and the saddle are all ebony, so they say.
I actually think the bridge is rosewood, stained, but that's okay.
It fits the mandolin, which is the big thing.
They put a little leather dampener in here, which I thought was a nice detail.
Useless, but whatever.
Tuners.
Open tuners.
[Gm] They're okay.
If I was going to grade anything low on this mandolin, it would be that.
That and this so-called inlay on the top, the absolutely hideous Morgan Monroe logo.
Sorry guys at Morgan Monroe.
And the inlay job is not an inlay, it's just a sticker, I think, under the finish.
It's not horrible, but I have to cover this up.
Anyway, so that's the mando.
Let me pick [Am] something out for you.
[D]
[G]
[Gb] [B]
[G] [C] [G]
Volume is really, really loud.
I was surprised at how loud it was.
The tone for mahogany is a little bright.
I think that's two things.
One, the wood hasn't really opened up yet, and I think it'll warm up over time.
And two, I think these strings, especially on the [Gb] bass, [G] [Bb]
[C] suck.
[G]
[C] [G]
So I'll replace the strings.
I plan to anyway.
I already replaced a couple of them when I got in.
First thing I did was tune it up and blew four of the strings.
Came with a free strap.
Nothing fancy.
[Abm]
Came with a fantastic case, also branded with the oh-so-charming Morgan Monroe brand.
It's got to be half-inch plywood.
It has a great seal around the top.
This lip comes down, the PVC comes down around the whole thing.
It [G] seals it nice.
Excellent padding, plenty of space.
Oh, and it's purple.
Got that going for me.
Anyway, here's a song.
Do a quick one here.
Jesse James.

[G] Jesse James we understand [C] killed [G] many a man.
He robbed the Union [D] train.
[G] He stole from the rich [C] and he gave [G] to the poor.
He had a hand [D] and a heart [G] and a brain.
Well, it was on Saturday night [C] while the stars [G] were shining bright.
He robbed the [D] Glendale train.
[G] And the people they did save [C] for many [G] miles away
was their [D] mountain laws, Frank and [G] Jesse James.
[C] Well, Jesse had a wife, [G] a widow, all her life.
His children, they [D] were brave.
[G] But history does record [C] how the coward [G] robbery fort
laid poor Jesse in his grave.

Well, it was Bob and Charlie Ford, them dirty little cowards.
Wonder how [D] they felt.
[G] They slept in Jesse's bed [C] and they ate [G] of Jesse's bread.
And they laid [D] poor Jesse in [G] his grave.
Well, the people held their breath when [C] they heard of [G] Jesse's death.
Wondered how he ever came [D] to fall.
It [G] was Robert Ford, in fact, [C] shot Jesse [G] in the back.
Jesse hung his picture on the wall.
