Me And My Bass Guitar: Victor Wooten chords
Start Jamming...
[Gm] Hello [A] everyone, I'm Victor Wooten and today I'm going to tell [Gb] you about me [Em] and my bass
guitar, my Fodera 4-string Monarch.
This is the yin-yang model.
I've been playing Fodera basses, this particular Monarch style, [Ab] since 1983, the first year
they started building basses.
I was very lucky.
I was recording in a studio, I think in Connecticut in the United States, and a friend of mine
introduced me to Joey Larichella, one of the builders of Fodera.
And since that first day that I met him, I've had a Fodera bass.
This is not my first one, but this is the main one that I'm using right now.
I had the idea many years ago of [G] having it look like a yin-yang symbol.
[Gb] And so Vinnie, the [F] great [E] bass maker, built it for me.
This one's over a decade old, it's very worn in, it feels like me and sounds like me, and
I love this bass.
One of the innovations that they've done over the years is they've added mic-pulp electronics.
So I have a mic-pulp preamp system built in, with a lot of controls.
And so even though I use great amplification and great heads and speakers, I can change
a lot of my sound from the bass.
So I actually have, first of all, is an on and off switch, a standby switch.
So I can play in nothing, but when I hit the switch, you hear the sound.
[G] That way, once I get my EQ set [E] the way I want it, I don't have to touch my volume.
[Eb] I can just turn the bass off.
I love that.
I also have an active and a passive switch for my passive and active EMG pickups that I'm using.
These are so worn out, you can barely even see the EMG X symbol on it.
But I love these pickups.
But I have an active and a passive switch, as well as another tone switch which will
affect the mids, how the mids react and how they sound on my bass.
That's very cool.
Right here I have a stacked pot, meaning it's two knobs in one.
The top part is just my overall volume.
The bottom is overall tone for the whole bass.
So I can just sort of maybe like a fender or something, I can adjust the overall tone.
Here I have a pan knob.
When I turn it this way, I only get this pickup.
When I turn the knob all the way this way, I get these pickups.
If I keep it in the middle, I get a perfect blend of both.
A lot of adjustments I can make.
And then I have lows, mids and high cut and boost.
So I have a lot of control with this Pope preamp.
Again, I'm using these EMG X pickups made by EMG and a Fodera bridge and Fodera and everything else.
I'm using DR strings that I love very much.
I love this bass.
Again, I've been using Fodera basses since 1983.
I love them and I think you'll love them.
Check them out when you can.
Thanks a lot.
