[N] [Dm]
[G] Hey, I'm [Db] Charlie from Blackberry Smoke.
[Bb] This is [B] my 1956 Les Paul Junior.
[Ab]
I bought it [A] in 1993 in a music store in Atlanta, Georgia.
[Bb] It once belonged to Rick Richards, [Ab] lead guitarist [B] for the Georgia Satellites.
[Ab] That was a great [A] selling point for the instrument [Gb] when it was hanging on the wall at [Ab] Clark Music.
A friend of mine worked there and it came in and he said, you [Abm] have to buy this guitar
because it was Rick's guitar.
Rick is a legend in Atlanta and he's one of our [F] favorite players, of course.
Now he's been a friend for years and [Em] he wants this guitar [Gb] back and he'll never get it back
[F] because I've had it a long [Ab] time.
I love the Les Paul Junior.
I love the [Gb] P90.
I love [Ab] mahogany guitars.
Mahogany is so very resonant.
[G] This guitar [C] itself has really got a ghost in it.
It's really, [Ab] it's one a guitar players know when you pick up a guitar and it's got that,
the heart of the wood sound.
You [A] know what it's going to [G] sound like when you plug it [Gb] into an amplifier [Ab] just because of that.
[Gb] [A]
It's [Ab] not original.
[G] The only thing [A] that it [Ab] was born with was the mahogany and the pickup.
[F]
Somebody obviously [G] made the bridge [F] replacement happen.
[Bb] [Ab] The headstock has been broken a couple of [G] times and been repaired [Gb] nicely.
[Bb] It's not supposed to be [Gb] black.
It's supposed to be [F] tobacco.
[G] I don't even [Ab] know if you could say that it's black now even.
It's [Gb] more like through the fire color.
[F]
Like it survived the [Gb] fire.
[Bb]
[Ab] P90, I've always loved [G] because it's a nice marriage between a Telecaster and a Les [Gb] Paul.
Little bit more [G] mid-range response.
It's a great [Gb] marriage with a humbucker or a single coil pickup when [F] playing with another
guitar player in the band.
[A] [B] Play it every [Bb] night.
It's been on every record.
[G] It's really my favorite guitar [Ab] I've ever owned.
[Gb]
[B] [A] [B] I [A] usually play it in [B] standard tuning.
[G] [Ab]
On [G] this tour I play some Drop D, [Gb] Open G at times.
That's my story [Bb] for [A] this [Ab] 1956 Les [Gb] Paul Jr.
and it's got Hey Y'all spelled incorrectly
on the back.
[B] Hey everyone, I'm Paul from Blackberry Smoke.
This is one of my [C] main instruments that I use, a Gibson Standard.
[Bb]
[B] It's a [Bb] great piece of wood, I guess you could say.
It's got good strings on it.
[C] This particular guitar, I have a Pearly Gates in the back and a 59 Reissue up front.
[Am] I had a buddy of mine who [A] makes a couple of guitars for me.
His name is Martin Moore.
Back home he relic'd up the guitar.
You can just check all the crazy stuff around it.
[F] He aged it a little [A] bit to where I could start aging it [Gb] myself.
So a lot of crazy stuff on the back.
Pretty neat stuff.
[B] I changed all the [A] taps out of here.
Got rid of what was in it.
It's [Ab] a great instrument.
[Bb] I've had it [B]
for about a year and [C] a half.
Gibson was kind enough to send it to [B] me.
Great company, great people.
This neck is more designed for the 60's.
[A] It's a smaller neck [G] than most Les [B] Pauls.
[A] I don't have the craziest [B]
[G] giant hands.
I like these little [B] necks I can get my hands around.
[G] A lot of bigger ones just feel like [Bm] a [Gbm] baseball bat at times.
Some people like those, some people don't.
[A] I prefer the [Abm] thinner necks.
[C] Just a great feel.
When I get up here I can get [Ab] up here instead of [A] fighting [G] doing this.
[Bm] It's definitely a good feeling guitar.
It's just a regular standard.
You can pick them up at music stores and play them.
[B] Why do [Db] you favor a Les Paul?
[E] The [Eb] tone, the sound of it, the [Ab] wood.
That's what it's all about.
This [B] big chunk here.
It just
[Gm] does something to [Ab] me.
To feel it.
[C] It's like when you play guitar and [Db]
stick it on a table and hit a note.
You can hear it more.
[Bb]
It's crazy.
It's just the wood.
I do love it.
Great company.
Like I said, I can't say enough about
