[Dm] In [Gm] 1941, after asking the BBC to give me a [Bbm] programme to sing [A] requests to soldiers serving abroad and [Db] their families at home,
[G] Howard Thomas, the producer, came up with the idea to [C] present them in the form of a letter, [Dbm] and it was [A] called Sincerely Yours.
This programme [Abm] ran throughout the war, and during that time I found some wonderful songs, [Db] some just as popular today as they were then.
Here are just a few of those [Ebm] never-to-be-forgotten tunes.
[Db] [Gb]
[Db] [Gb] Roll out the barrel, we'll have a barrel of [Db] fun.
Roll out the barrel, we've got the [Gb] blues on the run.
Sing it, boom, tararo, bring out a song [B] of good cheer.
Now's [Db] the time to roll the [Eb] barrel, for [Ab] the [Db] gang's all [D] here.
Roll [G] out the barrel, we'll have a [D] barrel of fun.
Roll out the barrel, we've got the blues on [G] the run.
Sing it, boom, tararo, bring out a song of good [C] cheer.
[E] Now's the time to [Gb] roll the [F] barrel,
[E] for the [A] gang's [D] all [G] here.
[C] [Gm] [Cm]
Bless [F] them all, bless them all, the long and the short [Bb] and the tall.
[Gm] [C] Bless all the sergeants, W-O-1s.
[G] Bless all the corporals [C] and their blinking sons, cause [F] we're saying goodbye to them all.
As back to the [Bb] billets they crawl.
[Gm]
[C] You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean, [G]
so cheer [C] up my [F] lads, bless them all.
[Db] Bless [Gb] them all, bless them all, the long and the short and [B] the tall.
[Abm] [Db] Bless all the sergeants and W-O-1s.
[Ab] Bless all the corporals [Db] and their blinking sons, [Gb] cause we're saying goodbye to them all.
As back to the [B] billets they crawl.
[Ab] [Db] You'll [Dbm] get no [Db] promotion this side of the ocean, [Ab] so cheer up my [Db]
lads, [Ebm] [F] bless them [Gb] [B]
[Gb] all.
[C]
[F] [Bb] [B]
[F] [Bb] [F] Wishing [Bb] will [C] make it [Am] so.
[C] Just keep [Cm] on wishing [F] and the care [Bb] will go.
[A] [Ab] [G] [Dm] Dreamers tell [G] us dreams come [Cm] true.
[G]
That's no [Eb] mistake.
[C] Wishes [Gm]
are [C] the [Gm] dreams you [Cm] dream when you're awake.
[F] [Bb] The curtain of night [C] will [G] pop [C] if you [Eb] are [Cm]
certain [F] within [Dm] your heart.
[G] So if [Cm] you wish long [Ebm] enough, [Ab] wish strong [Bb] enough, you will [Gm] come to know.
[F]
Wishing [Cm] [F] will make [Bb] it so.
[G]
[Eb] [F] [Bb] [F]
Wishing [Bb] will make [C] it so.
Just keep [Eb] on wishing [F] and the cares [Dm] will go.
[G] So if [Eb] you wish long enough, [Ab] wish strong [Bb] enough, you will come [C] to know.
[F] Wishing [Cm] [F] will make it so.
