[F#] [G#] This is the guitar lesson for [B] Nirvana's Lake of Fire from Guitar Made Easy.com.
[A#] On this one, make sure that your guitar is tuned a half step [G#m] down to play along with
the [N] original recording.
And there's two main parts to this song.
There's the verse and the intro.
Let's [A] start off with the verse.
The verse goes [F#] like this.
[B] [F#] [G#m]
[F#] [E] [B]
[F#] [N] Three chords you gotta know.
You gotta know your G power [F#] chord.
[C#m] Gotta know your F power [E] chord.
[G] You gotta know your [E] B flat power chord.
[Em] And actually four chords, so you gotta know your [B] C power chord.
[G#] So it's the same shape, you're just moving it around [B] between these [F#] strings right here.
G power chord is on the third and fifth fret based off of the E string.
[G] It's just three strings, E, A, and D.
Okay?
Pointer finger [B] on the third fret [C#] E string, ring finger on the fifth fret A [F#] string, pinky
on the fifth fret D string.
That's a power chord shape.
[E] Move that down to the first and third fret, you've got an F.
[A#] Move that [A] up a string to
the A, D, and G string, [E] and that's gonna be your B flat.
[B] Then on the third and fifth fret, that's gonna be your C.
[F] When I strum this song, [G] this is the strumming pattern.
[F#] So down, down, down, up, [E] and then down, down, and then down on the [A#] B flat.
[F#] So down, down, down, [E] up, down, down on F, and down on B flat.
[G#] And then [C] the next part [F#] is on [G#] G, and now we do the little bend that's the signature bend
in the song.
So we take our pinky and put that on the fifth fret B string, ring finger on the fifth fret
G string, [B] and you're bending that a half step and releasing it.
So you're kind of bending it up, releasing, bending up, releasing.
And it's just one [G] pluck.
[G#m]
[A] [Cm] But when I do this, I need a little bit more leverage on [B] the strings to make a bend like
that because I'm bending two strings.
So I take my middle finger and I put that on the G string at the fourth [Cm] fret, and my
pointer finger on the third fret B [G#m] string to give me a little bit more leverage.
And it makes it a lot easier.
And it [B] also sets you up for the next part you gotta play, which is you hammer on.
You don't actually hammer on, you just put your pointer finger onto the third fret on
the B and G [A] string, and [B] you pluck it.
So we have [F#m] just those two strings on the third fret, the B and the G.
And [C#m] then we go back [F#] to, [E] and the last run through that verse is [B] C, then F, [C#] then G.
[A#] So very slowly [F#] it should go like this.
[E] [F#]
[G#m] [F#m] [F#]
[B]
[F#] [G#] That's the verse of the song.
Now between lines of the verse, it just does this.
And this is when [G] the little, I guess you could call it a lead guitar [A] riff comes in.
It goes, [C#]
[A#] okay?
And that's on the B and the G string.
I'm on with my middle finger on the 11th fret at the B string, pointer fingers on the 10th
fret at the G string.
[A] And I kind of put a little bit of vibrato into those notes.
I wiggle them around a little bit.
It gives me that kind of [E]
vibrato [Em] sound.
And I'm also alternating between the B and the [A] G string.
So I'm not just strumming them at the same time.
I'm strumming them individually, or I'm plucking them individually, kind of like a down-up
pattern right there.
And then you slide down [G] to the 5th and 6th fret with the [E] same shape.
[F#] And then slide to the 7th and 8th fret.
And that's the last part of that little fill right there.
So while that fill's going [B] on, you'll hear this.
You'll [F#] hear
[B] It usually does that twice.
It's between just G and [F#] F, and it goes through it twice.
Once.
[B] [F#] [B] And then it goes back into the verse again.
Now on the second verse, and I [F] think it depends on the version you hear this song, they also do this.
They go
[G#m] [F#] So it's G, F, Bb, back to G.
[Fm] So you might hear that in there [B] as well.
The chorus of the song is very [C#] easy.
All it is is [C#m] Dm, [A] Bb,
[G#] [C#m] Dm, [G#m]
A major, [G#] [C#m] Dm,
[G#] [A] Bb, [B] C, [C#m]
Dm.
Then it goes
[C#]
[G#] So you hold [G] Dm for an extended amount of time that last time you play it.
[C] And what I do is [C#m] when I strum through it, you can hear this in the song, he does kind
of a clean strum.
And then [A#] he goes
[D#] So he's hammering on with his [B] pointer finger onto the 1st fret E string.
[D#] [C#] And then he plucks the 3rd fret on the B string.
And that finishes it off.
[B] So I'll strum through it for you so you can see what it sounds like.
