[N] [F] Hey, this is John with learning guitar [B] now [F] calm and this [A] is [Dm] podcast number 40 [E] in [Eb] today's podcast
I'm going [Em] to show you a little [Dm] slide guitar lesson in opening tuning [B] about using
Groove style lick and utilizing a [Db] couple open strings
[F]
So what [A] I'm going to show you in [F] this podcast [C]
is we're going [D] to play in the key of e open e [E] tuning
e [B]
be [E] e G [Abm] sharp
B [E] e
Opening [Ab] tuning and this is [E] a pretty cool little position
I don't find [B] a [Ebm] lot of people taking advantage of [B] and you'll hear
[Eb]
Especially Derrick trucks [D] a lot of old blues stuff does this [B] type of a [Eb] move?
But it's a cool little [D] pattern where you just slide backwards on the first fret we're playing this again in the [C] key of e so yeah
[A] On the G [Dm] sharp string you're going to [F] slide backwards to the first [A] fret
Now
[Ab] What did you do after [Ebm] that [Gb] is you're going to kind of slide into the on the e string on the third fret [F] and then?
Pull off to the open string so you get [C] this sound
[E]
so you got
It's a lot of root notes involved here
[Eb] So what we're doing is just a [Db] cool position that you [Dm] can play over a lot of different blue stuff
So you slide backwards the first fret on the G sharp [A] string?
and
[Em]
Slide into the third fret on the e [E] string then you can use these open strings
Slide into the [Dbm] fifth fret which is another e [B] on the B string so you have
[E]
You can even [Eb] do a groove maybe something like this
[E]
[A]
[E] [A]
[E] [A]
[E] [Em]
[E]
[A] So
It's kind of a cool [Dbm] groove if you want to know what I'm doing right there
Just this simple groove here slide backwards to the first [A] fret
[Db] third fret on the e string pull [E] off and
Then you hit the low e string
[D] Then third fret the fifth fret on the low
[A]
[Em]
[A] [E]
[Gb] So
It comes [C] in you go one [E] two three [Em] four
[E] And that's kind of the rhythm you kind of keep you just keep repeating
Stop it to
[Em]
3
[E]
[A] [D] Cool [F] exercises to see if you can [C] improvise a lick in between [D] the four beats, so [Ebm] you'd play this groove here
[E]
[A] So every [Eb] four times you know the last go around [Dm] you're gonna just [Db] improvise a lick and it's gonna
It's gonna create a lot of [Eb] rhythm guitar skills when you're playing slide because you definitely want to [Gb] stay in rhythm
Mostly, [Db] you know all the time you want to keep that a definite [Dbm] beat going and you'll find your slide guitar playing taking on [C] a rhythm
Aspect as well, you know can play kind of slide and lead at the same [E] time
So [D] that's an exercise and also a cool look [Eb] to learn where you can combine those things
[E]
[A] [E]
[A]
[E]
[A] [Em]
[A] [E]
[F]
[E]
[A] So
It's just a cool little open [Bb] e tuning little rhythm move [C] that you can do [Db] practice your [F] improvising while keeping the rhythm and also a little
[Eb] Awesome little slide back little position that you can use utilizing [B] some open strings in open [Em] e tuning
It's really like using that little little position there [C] opens up a lot of different avenues
