This is the title cut on the record.
I wrote this one just a few weeks before it actually occurred to me that I was making a record.
It's one of those things, when I wrote it, I actually didn't think it was anything any good or anything that worked.
It was kind of a few weeks later, I kind of stumbled on it and was like, wow, that actually has some potential.
And then I finished it, and it's one of my favorite things on the record.
But this one, a lot of it's inspired by my great uncle, who was at that time about to turn 91.
I knew our time was running out, and he wasn't doing too good.
He's like kind of a second father to me, and was very much a father figure to everyone in my extended family.
I wrote this song kind of about watching my kids play out at the old homestead where he lived for his entire life.
In the house that he was born in, and watching my kids play there.
Because they loved him like I did.
It's about [E] that, and it's called Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance.

[G] warm summer wind blows.
The chimney's fell down.
The grass ain't been cut, and the road into town.
Cuts through the woods, and the [D] barn needs a [G] roof.
There's things more important than holding the proof.
[F] Holding the proof, [G] and it's keeping me strong.
Beneath this hollow, endless longing.

While hate aligning rumbles in the distance.

Night creeps slowly by [G] as I hold myself together.
