Piano Talk Live: Jeff & James Easter on "Thank You, Lord, For Your Blessings On Me" [July 1, 2020] chords
Start Jamming...
His dad wrote a song that he has sung on stage many times in the last few years.
And I heard it the other day and I said, in light of these times, when some of us, many of us, are beginning to figure out what is really important, it's the simple things.
There's a roof up above me.
I have a good place to sleep.
There's food on the table.
Shoes on my feet.
So I called Jeff and I said, I want to replay this and maybe it will help some people through this very difficult time.
So he said, great.
But he went down to visit with his daddy first.
And you've got to see this.
Hello everybody.
I'm up here in [Bb] Miner, North Carolina.
I'm Jeff Easter.
This [E] is my dad, James Easter.
Folks ask me all the time, what's the most requested song we've done on a Gaither video?
And it would have to be, Thank You Lord for Your Blessings on Me.
[Bb] And daddy and his two brothers, Uncle Russell and Uncle Ed, wrote this song years ago.
Tell [D] them how you came about this song, dad.
Jeff, I got to thinking, you know, back in my time there, it was a depressed time.
Daddy made about 50 cents an hour on old furniture factory.
[Eb] Had four children and a wife to take care of.
So he'd buy us one pair of old bro-grand shoes and he'd say, now if you wear them out, you'll have to wear them the rest of the year.
So I remember many times I'd be [Bb] running to school to stay warm [Em] and it would sound like somebody was [Gb] chasing me.
And it was them there flaps coming off [Bb] them old bro-grand shoes.
And then many times we had to go barefooted when they did wear out.
Daddy could not get us no more.
And sometimes they'd keep us after school so the other [Bb] kids wouldn't see them and give us a jacket
because we didn't have even a jacket to wear in the wintertime.
[N] I mean, wintertime.
And back then we had some pretty cold days back when I was growing up.
So then I got to thinking about that and the old house we lived in leaked and everything.
And then I got, when I started writing songs, I think that's one of the first ones I came up with.
And I said, thank God for the shoes on my feet and thank God for the roof over my head and a good place to sleep.
And most of all, one day Jesus Christ knocked on this boy's heart's door and I had knowledge to open it up and let him walk in.
I've never been the same since and that's the greatest song.
I still sing it.
Still get blessed every time I sing it.
Amen.
[Ab]
[Db] [Ab] While the world looks upon me as [Eb] I struggle alone
And they say [Eb] I have nothing [Db] but they are [Ab] so wrong
In my heart I'm rejoicing how I wish they [Db] could see
Thank [Ab] you Lord for your blessings on me
There's a roof up above me and I have a good place to sleep
There's food on my table [Db] and shoes [Ab] on my feet
You gave me your love Lord and a fine [Db] family
Thank [Ab] you Lord for your blessings on me
[E] I [A] know I'm not wealthy and these clothes they're not new
[Bm] And I don't have [E] much money [D] but Lord I [A] have you
And that's all that matters though the world may not [D] see
Thank you [A] Lord [E] for your blessings [A] on me
Y'all sing it with me.
There's a roof up above me and [E] I have a good place to sleep
There's food on my table [D] and shoes [A] on my feet
You gave me your love Lord and a fine [D] family
And I thank [A] you Lord [E] for your blessings [A] on me
There's a roof up above me and [E] I have a good place to sleep
There's food on my table and shoes [D] [A] on my feet
You gave me your love Lord and a fine [D] family
And I thank you Lord [E] for your blessings [A] on me
Sing it one more time.
There's a roof up above me and I [E] have a good place to sleep
[E] There's food on my table [D] and shoes [A] on my feet
You gave me your love Lord and a fine family
[D] And I thank you Lord [E] for your [A] blessings on me
And I [Dbm] thank you [A] Lord for [E] your blessings [A] on me
Said there's a roof up above me and I [E] have a good place to sleep
