You think you would think that asked me about you know they come up that's about songwriting you think they would ask me about
[Bb] Inspiration and craft and you know [C] meter and metaphor and stuff like that
But usually they come up and what they want to know about [Bb] songwriting is like [Ab] why are you still doing [E] this?
And I guess the only way I [C] can really describe it [Bb] is
About three years ago.
I played this festival out in San Francisco called a strictly [N] hardly bluegrass festival.
It's a wonderful festival
Yeah, it's awesome.
Golden Gate Park is just incredible.
So they put me out [Ab] there and I did the gig and everything
It was just wonderful time and after I finished, [Em] you know, fish my set this young man came [Eb] up at all 28 29 years
He said mr.
Herrick.
Can I talk to you for a minute?
I said, well, I'm kind of busy
I'm packing up my stuff here.
He said well, can I tell you how inspiring [Bb] you are?
I'm like, well, yeah, go [N] ahead
[Eb] He said well, he said please don't take this the wrong way, but he said I was watching your set
I was just so impressed with the [Gb] commitment that you have [Ab] to your music [Eb] into your art and everything
He said he said please don't take this wrong
But here you are you're an old guy and you're still [Ab] you're still writing these songs and traveling around all over the world
Playing them and [G] putting out these records and doing all this [Eb] stuff like this
I was just really impressed with the [Ab] commitment that you have to your to your music and [Eb] he said I played
Mandolin in this band over here.
He said I too someday hope to have that commitment and I said well
Just [C] never learn to do anything [N] else
I love you and cheers to you all
You too, have this commitment Laughter
[E] Remember
When your parents [B] said go to college and [C] get a degree so if the [Bb] music thing doesn't work [C] out you'll have something to [Gb] fall back on
[C] Don't do that [Bb] Laughter
