[Abm] It was so nice, I wish I was [Bb] younger and better looking.
[Ab] But if I [E] was, I probably wouldn't have as cool a [Ab] song.
[Gb] [B] [Ab]
How great this gig was, it's really nice that I [C] grew up for the first time [Ab] right down the street here.
[Fm]
Nathan Abrams, down [Ab] [Gb] over [C] there.
It's a very [Eb] special gig, that's why I brought this guitar [E] with me.
[Gb] I [E] don't ever fly, but I [Ab] don't hardly ever take it out of the house.
I said, come [Bb] up here to Kessler Theatre, I want to make a very special [G] gig.
That's why [Ab] I brought this.
This was actually my grandfather's [Eb] guitar.
[Abm] [Gb]
He wasn't [Ab] much of a [Gm] guitar player, he got it from some guy probably through East Texas back in the 50's.
[Bb] He played like Wildwood's Flower on and under the double ego, but I was a little kid.
I'd see this guitar and I'd say, [Fm] Pa, let [Bb] me play the guitar.
He'd go, no you can't play that guitar.
You [C] can't play a man's guitar unless he gives you [Bb] permission.
You just [N] can't go over and pick it up, he has to give you permission.
I'd say, well Pa, let me play it.
He'd go, no you can't play it.
He never [E] would let me play it, I guess he was trying to teach me to respect other [Ab] people's property or something.
But he never would, even after I got older, my 20's.
It would be [Am] 31 years come [B] April, I [Bb] was out in California, my grandmother called me and said,
you need to [Am] get up here, Grandad's health is not doing very well.
So I drove from LA back up [G] to Paris, Texas [Bb] where they were living at the time.
Took me like 38 [N] hours.
I got up there and my grandmother came out and said,
I'm glad you're here, Grandad's dying, he's been asking about you,
going where's Ray, where's Ray, he wants to talk to you about that old guitar.
So I went in there and he was on his deathbed and he sold it to me.
You
[C] [Ab] [E]
[D] [N]

I tell you, I'm [E] a hot chair.

My roots are closed at dawn, my roots are closed at dawn.
He got fumed up and went to talk to my mama.
That don't seem right, just don't seem right.
I heard all the say something about getting high.
I ain't the criminal kind, ain't the criminal kind.
I just do a little pill flex every time, every time.
He's outside with the show, he's outside with the show.
I was crawling out of window, got shot full of holes.
So it was at that time, it was at that time,
I decided to forego my life of crime.
So I got my guitar, got my guitar.
I play all night long with the money and the jock.

He don't do nothing when the dogs are gone.
Now that don't seem right, now it just don't seem right.
I think the bird had said something about getting high.
