[D] We got it out there?
You hear it alright?
We got it.
But don't [G] listen too close.
[D] Well, this next song here is called Name Droppin' and [N] if you've ever seen me perform before, you know I don't really name drop.
I may have mentioned Hayes because we wrote the song together, but I don't name drop a lot.
A lot of times you'll see performers on stage and they'll go,
[E] this song was written by a close personal friend of mine and they named somebody famous and they're lying.
They [D] don't know those people.
What they're trying to do is say, well this song was written by a friend of mine
and they named somebody, you know, really famous and [B] everything.
And what [N] that does is that they're doing that to try to convince [D] the audience
that they are a little higher up on the [G] rungs of the entertainment ladder,
leaned against the wall of illusion and broken [D] dreams.
Oh, okay.
So I refuse to do that.
Back a couple of weeks ago I was talking about this exact same subject with Willie.
He agreed with me, I was very
But there was a wonderful percussionist there in Austin, Texas, named Mambo John Traynor.
Mambo John, [E] just a soulful kid, played in all these great bands in Austin back in the 80s and 90s
and Freedom [D#] of the Fire Dogs and all these [Em] resentments and all these guys.
Just a great, great cat.
Had the fortune to [F#m] do some gigs with him and I just loved him [G] to death.
And when he passed away, [N] this verse about him popped in [G] my head and I [A] started singing about him
and [D] some other ne'er-do-well musicians I know.
Mambo [Bm] John's the type of guy, I don't think anybody's saying [E] this,
but this is every now and then, not often, but every now and then, Mambo John smoked [D] a little pot.
And what he'd [N] do, he'd drive out in the hill country south of Austin and we'd drive along.
And [G] we'd drive along and you'd see a dead animal by the side of the road, he would [Gm] stop.
He'd make a hat out of it.
Which even if you disapprove of marijuana, you've got to [D] admire that.

Never been to Birmingham
Mixin' livin' with an old lap slide
Ain't gonna take Willie for a pony ride
Let it rain, let it pour
Ain't gonna study war no more
If you got a mind to, you can sing
If you got a body, baby, shake that thing
Darcy DeVille, Darcy DeVille
She's sweeter than a whiskey still
She got a fiddle and she got a bow
She plays barefooted with painted toes
Let it rain, let it pour
Ain't gonna study war no more
If you got a mind to, you can sing
If you got a body, shake that thing now
Scrappy [Dm] [D]
Judd, Scrappy Judd
He's got muddy waters in his blood
The young man can't sing the blues
He don't have a tie or shoes
Let it rain, let it pour
Ain't gonna study war no more
If you got a mind to, you can sing
If you got a body, shake that thing now
Mary Gaussie, Mary Gaussie
Rides all night, she sleeps all day
Damnedest thing I ever seen
Was that woman in a limousine
Let it rain, let it pour
Ain't gonna study war no more
If you got a mind to, you can sing
If you got a body, shake that thing now
Mambo John, Mambo John
Who said, now he's gone on
When he beat his drum
I believed he was the prophet
Of the blessed leaf
Let it rain, let it pour
Ain't gonna study war no more
If you got a mind to, you can sing
If you got a body, shake that thing now
Let it rain, let it pour
Ain't gonna study war no more
If you got a mind to, you can sing
If you got a body, shake that thing now
