Rev Peyton teaching finger style guitar - Part 1 chords
Start Jamming...
Well, I'm here in Kansas City
By the railroad tracks with my pal Chris
He wanted to video me talking a little bit about what fingerstyle [A] guitar is because a lot of folks don't really [D] understand
What it even is it's kind of a dying art
So I'm just gonna run through a few things [A] and start off real basic and [D] simple and then do some more
Complicated things that kind of spell it out.
You know, [Bb] essentially what you're [Am] doing the traditional way of playing fingerstyle guitar is
Your thumb plays [E] the bass line or like a rhythm [Bb] while your fingers pick out the melody
and it can be something as simple as a
Say like a like a boogie like [D] this like it [Dm]
[D]
[Dm] [D]
could be a shuffle in the same way
[G] [D]
[G]
[D] [A] something a little bit more a little more difficult is doing like [Bb] a syncopated [D] line like
You know
You can take it [N] one step further and do something like like one of the songs that uh
We've got off our last record is called DT's or the devil and it's the same thing is all that.
It's the same thing
It's a syncopated bass line.
My thumb plays when my fingers pick out a melody.
It just happens really fast
so the [D] same way that this
Is happening and there's a melody going on.
[A] That's what's gonna happen here.
It's gonna be super fast.
So
[Dm] What's
[D]
[Dm]
[D] [N]
happening is your thumbs playing one thing your fingers are picking out another it's two completely separate things that makes one song
It's kind of [D] secret to uh to what makes fingerstyle guitar on the one hand
So cool and on the other hand hard and it's one of the reasons why it's dying out
So I want to show a couple other things to
Some [N] things are a little more difficult that really illustrate how your thumb is doing one thing while your fingers are doing another and
Here's another one that I've sort of come up with to sort of illustrate how fingerstyle guitar works and
Everyone knows row your boat, but I'm gonna do it in a round with myself
So my thumbs gonna pick out real your boat while my fingers pick it out and around usually how this is row your boats done
Of course, you know is it the one side of the room does it and the other side of room does it?
So I'm gonna try and attempt it myself
Fingerstyle and around so let's try it [D] here
This [G]
[Gbm]
[C] [D] [N] one here.
This is the old Yankee Doodle Dixie and my thumbs gonna play Yankee Doodle.
My fingers are gonna pick out
Dixie so the Yankee Doodle is gonna come at you like this
[D] [G] [B]
[A] [G] [N] Right and on the high strings it's going to be gonna be Dixie it's gonna happen at the [Ab] same time.
So here we go
[G] [C] [C]
[G] [B] [C] [B] [A] [G]
[Gb] [G] [Bb]
