Hey everybody, this is Rob from Swift Lessons
and today I'm showing you how to play
Stand By Me by Benny King on the ukulele.
Okay, so let's take a look at the chords that we're using.
It's a 1-6-4-5 progression in the key of A.
Start off with A major, your I chord,
with your middle finger on the 2nd fret of your G string
and your 1st finger is being added to the 1st fret of your C string.
Strum all the strings for A major.
[F#] Next we have a very easy transition from A major to F sharp minor.
I just add the 3rd finger to [A#] the 2nd fret of my E [F#m] string.
Okay?
For an added effect and get some high notes in there,
I can add my pinky to the 4th fret of my A string.
F sharp minor.
[Bm] Alright, the next chord that we need is D major.
I'm borrowing everything on the 2nd fret
[D] but adding my pinky to the 5th fret of the A string.
That's D major.
Our last chord in the progression is E major
and I can achieve that just by taking this chord and [E] sliding it up.
It's a movable shape, which means it can be used to play
[D] every major chord in the book.
So here's D major to E major.
[A] Okay, let's take a look at the progression one more time.
Starting off with the A major.
1 and 2 and 3 and 4.
I switch to the F [F#m] sharp minor.
1 and 2 and 3 and 4.
[B] Next I go to the D, but I'm going to hold it out half as long.
So [D] I'm going to go into the D major.
1 and 2 and.
Switch to the E.
[E] 1 and 2 and.
[A] Back to A major.
