Hi today we wanted to go over the teacher children steel part pedal steel parts
and I had to play this in a show recently and worked it out the intro the break and the
Outro and I wanted to share it with you a lot of people are interested in this
Because it was such a popular song
And introduced the steel guitar to many people My
My version is not note for note with what Jerry Garcia played, but it's sort of hopefully captures the
spirit of it and
Technically it's not that difficult it just only four strings involved and the a B and C pedals no knee levers
But you do need some blocking technique to capture the spirit of it
I noticed there's some other YouTube instruction on this mine were probably going to be a little bit different
But you can listen to it and see if it sounds right to you
We're going to play
all three parts the intro the
break and the outro with a rhythm track and then we'll
Break them down one at a time.
Hopefully that we can get this all on one
YouTube video if not, they'll have to put out a part two

That's the original
Key, and we're very familiar with the pedal down D [D] at the fifth fret
[C] so we're going to move it up an octave to the 17th fret and then we're going to
Start this thing where I hit in the [B] fourth string and then pedaling [F] on the fifth [Gb] and then do [C] it again
[Bb] and then hit four and five [Bbm]
and
So that's [B] a slide down
[E]
[Gm] and then a release of a of the a pedal [Bb] so it
[Gm] [G] And down to the tenth fret and we're going to pedal off the a pedal three times
String there [Bb] and then slide down to the fifth fret
[D]
I
Pedals down that's our D [Bb] go up to the third string
[D] [Ab] And we just pedal off [D] a
And hit the fifth with the B pedal on
and four five four five and six
[A] [D] That's just a releasing both pedals [A] up to three four and five and do the same thing pedals on [D] releasing them
[A]
[Bb]
The the steel break
Is [Dbm] starts on the key of D, but we'll lead into it with his B minor [Bm] chord
[G] Then the G
[E] [A] And [Bb] no they love you and then it starts out here on the third on the fifth fret with a third string
So that's just a pedal off the a pedal and then goes to the G.
It [Gm] goes
So [Gb] that's a pedaling on the B the sixth the fifth
[Gm]
And then fourth and third with pedal [Bb] with the pedal down on the third so [D]
[Gm]
[G] that's six five pedaling off
hitting [D] four again
Then we're going to switch over to the C pedal
Well, this is all played on the fifth string fourth string for a minute here
[Em] That's the that's the that that that note [G] has gotten by hitting the C pedal
[A]

And [D]
[Gm] [G] then pedaling off the fourth string with [A] the C [Gb] pedal
Then we slide up to [Em] the twelfth fret
pedaling on that sixth fifth string
[A] pedals [Bb]
[A] are down now
third [Bbm] string
Let off the a pedal on the fifth string and hit the six with the [A] B in
So that's [Bm] the break the outro it says that same progression B [G] minor [Bb] Hey
And then and no they love you and then you go up to this
Which is the third string at the 17th fret?
Then when the song goes to the G to the G go to the 10th fret [Gm] and you hit four three and four
Then four and five and let the pedal off
Six with the B pedal on
[G]
[Bb] [A] [D] [Gm]
