[Db] Hi, I'm Roger McGuinn and this is my Rickenbacker 370RM model.
So when I play mostly in concerts, I used to play an older model, but they built me
a model for finger picks, but I moved it all down one so I could use a flat pick and do
some [Ab] picking with a flat pick, [Eb] and then I could finger pick as well.
[E] So here's what I do.
It's kind of [Ebm] a combination of the two.
I'll pick the first few notes and then I'll roll with the finger [Db] picks on this.
[Eb]
[Db] See how I'm rolling with the finger picks on the end of that?
[Eb] [Db] [Eb]
[Db] Let's take a look at the picking pattern I'm doing on that.
It's not very complicated.
It's kind of a steady Travis picking pattern.
I'll do it real slowly for you.
[E]
The 8 miles high break is based on a blues scale that goes something like [Db] this.
[Abm]
[Ebm]
[Ab] So here's the blues scale a little bit faster.
[Eb] And I'm going up and down with the flat pick.
That is, on some of the notes I'm picking down, and on others I'm pulling up, and that
saves a little time.
I'm going to play Mr.
Spaceman [Gb] and tell you about it.
It's a song that I wrote when I was looking out my front yard one day and hoping a flying
saucer would land out there and take me for a ride.
And I picked up my 12 string and came up with a little 2-4 picking pattern like this.
