This is Josh here from Loudwire's Gear Factor.
We're here with the legendary
[N] Doors guitarist, rock and roll hall of famer, Mr.
Robbie Krieger.
Robbie, how are you?
[E] Good.
So we're here to talk about guitar and take it back to all the way to the beginning and you know wanted to [N] ask you
what was your first memory of seeing you know
someone playing guitar and the first person that sort of inspired you to pick up a guitar?
Well the first thing I heard I think was Elvis [Em] that really you know got to me and
I guess it was Scotty Moore.
I didn't know at the time, but you know don't be cruel, you know.

[N] And you know I loved Little Richard and
Bats Domino and of course Chuck Berry.
He was really the reason I
went to electric guitar.
Because before I knew him I was playing electric guitar.
Before that I was playing flamenco and you know just folk music, stuff like that.
I loved Bob Dylan so I had like the harmonica holder and did that whole thing.
Now you're, you know, you've been sort of a sonatas with Gibson.
You know, so what is it about this particular guitar that makes it your go-to guitar?
I don't know.
I mean you know the first one I got, the Melody Maker,
it was just the cheapest guitar in the shop, you know.
But when I got it home and started playing I just really loved how it looked and how it felt.
You know the two cutaways, you know, to me.
I was on this acid trip one time and it reminded me of the devil for some reason.
It just looked very devilish, which I liked.
Now you've written so many iconic songs but also you've played so many iconic riffs.
In the course of any particular riff that you [F#] wrote that you might be most [A#] proud of?
[G] You know, there's a lot of licks that I used in my songs.
Like Love Me Two Times, for instance, which we're going to do tonight, you [E] know.

Also cover and interpret your music.
Is there any one particular cover song that you thought was your personal favorite?
When Jose Feliciano did Light My Fire, you know, at first I didn't like it.
I [A] said, [C] geez, he did it totally different than us, you know.
[Bm] And it's kind of [D#] jazzy, which is okay, but it [C] was kind of almost MOR, I would say.
But then the more I heard it, the more [A#] I started [D#] liking it.
And [N] I just ended up really liking it, especially the guitar stuff he does at the end.
