The GODFATHER of GUITAR: TÁRREGA chords
Start Jamming...
[N] [C] Pianists have Chopin, [E] guitarists have Tarrega.
Born [A] in Spain in 1852, Francisco Tarrega would [Gb] change the course [Eb] of classical guitar forever.
So I wanted to dedicate a video to whom I and [Gb] many others [E] consider to be the godfather of [Gb] classical guitar.
This iconic [A] picture of Tarrega hangs in most guitar school [G] rooms
and inspires [F] countless [Em] [G] guitarists to [Gb] dive into the [F] magic of his pieces.
I [Db] will play five of them [B] in increasing difficulty
and I will end the video [Eb] with perhaps the most beautiful [F]
composition ever written for guitar,
but also one of the hardest which I struggle with even to this day.
[E] [A]
We [Ab] shall begin this journey with Lagrima, [G] which means teardrop in Spanish.
It's a very beautiful [Bb] piece that is not too hard to [Gb] play once you have acquired some skill on the guitar.

[E] Next I will [Ab] play Adelita, [Dm] which is a great piece for [Bb] developing your musicality
[Ab] and explore the many varieties of expression [F] possible on a guitar.
The classical guitar [C] may not have the volume of other [Bb] instruments,
but it [A] has been likened to a [Bb] small orchestra due to the many possibilities of sound [F] and tone.

[A] [Bb] For the third level I have chosen [F] the most recognizable [Gb] piece by [A] Tarrega,
but perhaps not for [Eb] the reason you think.
Part of the [Am] piece reached [A] worldwide fame [F] due to Nokia using it as a [E] ringtone.
[A] Sound familiar?
[Bb] [G] Here is Gran Vals.

The first piece I will play is a piece by the great G.
It is a piece of the same name as the second, but it is a bit more complicated.

Before we [A] continue, I'm proud to say that Skillshare [Eb] has sponsored this video.
You know, [A] instead of going down a YouTube wormhole, why [G] not spend your time [F] learning a new skill?
Skillshare is an [Abm] online platform curated [B] specifically for learning,
meaning there are no ads and they're [Gb] always launching new premium classes.
Regardless if you're a beginner [Eb] or pro, Skillshare offers thousands [G] of classes on [Bb] topics ranging from
music, film and video, [Ab] illustration, graphic [Gb] design and much more.
At the moment I'm doing a class by Young Guru called Learn How to Mix
[Dm]
and it made me realize some stuff about EQ and compression that I hadn't before.
[C] As you can see, the class is divided into shorter videos which makes it fit into any schedule.
It also includes a class [Ab] project.
Skillshare is incredibly affordable.
[Bbm]
It's less than $10 [Gm] a month [F] with an annual subscription.
[Eb] So join the [Gm] Skillshare community [Ab] and make 2021 a year creating something [Gb] meaningful
together with millions of other fellow creatives.
The first 1000 people to use the link in [Bb] my description will get a free trial
of Skillshare Premium [F] Membership so you can explore your [G] creativity.
[E] [A]
We will [Db] continue with Capriccio [A] Arabe, one of Targa's most [Ab]
played and famous pieces for guitar
which every student [Gb] at some point in his journey will [B] play.
It [Gb] is hauntingly beautiful [F] and when you can play it well,
you have come a long [Gb] way in your development as a guitarist.
A teacher once [B] told me that when I play it, [Bb] I should [A] imagine camels [G] far away
walking slowly [Gb] in a hot desert.
[Bb] This image [Gb] is still stuck in [E] my mind when I play it.

This [A] piece is the reason that I [Gb] fell in love with classical [F] guitar in the first place.
[Fm] Recuerdos de la Alhambra, [B] which means [Bb] memories of [F] Alhambra in Spanish.
And it describes a visit Targa once made [Ab] to the great [F] palace in Granada.
[Dbm]
This piece [F] uses a technique called [B] tremolo,
which I consider to be the hardest technique to [F] master on a classical guitar.
[C]
I'm [F] still not satisfied with my tremolo and I have heard very few [Fm] guitarists who can play it
really well, [C] but I will give it a try now.
[Ab] Thank you for watching this far into the video
and I [A] hope it inspired [Gb] you to pick up the classical guitar
[G] and explore the treasure of [A] pieces that the godfather of [Ab] guitar, Targa, [E] left behind.
