[F] Welcome to Flashback [A#] Favorites.
I'm Music Mike.
Thanks for joining me again.
[G] Here's a guy that spent lots of time in various different bands around the Philadelphia area in the [G#m] early 70s.
He was also a staff writer and session musician for some of the great soul producers in Philly, like Tom Bell and Gamble & Huff.
He's written many songs himself and various artists have recorded them, [F] like the Bay City Rollers with Rock & Roll Love Letter.
In 1974, he released this [N] debut LP and his single, but so did another artist at about the same time.
That guy was Art Garfunkel, and Art's version actually did a little bit better on the charts.
The song is Second Avenue, and here's the songwriter's version that made it to number 58 from Tim Moore on Flashback [E] Favorites.
Since [B]
[A] [E] [B]
[A] [E]
we can no longer [F#m] make it, girl, I [E] found a new place to [A] live my life.
[E]
It's really no place [C] at all, just a hole [G] in the wall, you see.
[D] It's cold and dusty, but [E] I'll let it [C#] be.
[A] Living here without you on [B] Second Avenue.
[E] [F#m]
[E] And since our stars took [F#m] different paths, I guess I won't be shaving in your [F#m] looking glass.
[E] Guess my old friendly [C] grin must [D] have started [G] to dim somehow, [D]
and I certainly don't [C#m] need it now.
[F#m]
Still I keep smiling too, [A]
on [B] Second [E] Avenue.
[F#m]
[E] [A] I can still see you [G#m] standing [F#m] there on the third [C#m] floor landing, [F#m] the day you visited [B]
the Harley [E] Silver.
[F#m]
[E] [A] Outside it [G#m] was raining, [F#m] you said you couldn't be [C#m]
staying.
You went [F#m] back to your flowers and your [A]
[B] birds.
[E] Since we can no longer [F#m] see the [F#m] light, [E] the way we did when we [A] kissed that night.
[E] Then all the things that we [C] felt [D] must eventually [G] melt and fade, [D]
like the frost on [C#m] my [E] windowpane.
[A]
Where I wrote I am you, [B]
