Aloha Ukulele on the ground and welcome to the 100th episode of Uke Minutes.
[Fm]
For our 100th episode of Uke Minutes, we're going to give you the rundown on what to do
if you're a brand new uke player and you just got a [Em] brand new ukulele.
So let's open it out of the box.
So usually [Dm] your ukulele comes slack down, which means tuned down so that the strings
aren't too tight.
So now what we're going to do is we're going to tune our ukulele.
Now the standard tuning for an ukulele is G, C, E, A.
Place our tuner at the top.
The top string should be tuned to a G.
[Eb] [E] [F]
[Gb] [G]
The next string should be tuned to a [Ab] C.
[A] [Bb] [B]
[C]
Next string should be an E.
[Eb] [E]
Last but not least, the bottom string should be an A.
[N] Now [A]
[C] since your ukulele is new, check back often to see if your strings are in tune.
You might want to keep tuning it up because your strings are still trying to get used
to your new ukulele.
Now that your ukulele is all tuned up, let's learn how to strum.
First, you're going to take your left hand, place it over the fretboard so that we don't
worry about our left hand doing any chords or anything fancy like that.
Take our right hand, now with your open palm, place it over the sound hole and what you're
going to do is with your pointer finger, you're going to point to yourself like so.
Now you're going to twist your wrist and point to the ground.
Point to yourself, point to the ground.
Point to yourself, point to the ground.
Now you want to take this same motion and place it over your strings just lightly.
[Bb]
So point to yourself.
When you point to the ground, that's called a down strum.
Point to yourself as an up strum.
Point to the ground, down strum.
Point to yourself as an up strum.
So down, up, down, up, down, up.
Now let's learn some chords.
The first chord that we're going to learn is a C chord.
You're going to take your ring finger, place it on the bottom string, third fret.
Now let's try that with our strum.
Down, up, down, up, down, up, down.
One, two, [C] three, go.
Down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down.
Now the next chord that we're going to learn is an F chord.
You're going to take your middle finger, place it on the top string, second fret.
Pointer finger on the E string, first fret.
One, [F] two, three, go.
Down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down.
[G] Now last but not least, a G7 chord.
We're going to take our middle finger again.
We're going to place it on the C string, second fret.
Pointer finger on the E string, first fret.
And your ring finger on the bottom string, second fret.
So what you want to do is you want to take your wrist for this chord.
You want to swing it to your left.
One, two, three, go.
Down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down.
So what you want to do is you want to practice switching from one chord to the next.
So you might want to practice switching from your C to your F.
One, [N] two, three, [C] four.
One, two, three, four.
F.
[F] One, two, three, [C] four.
Back to C.
One, two, three, four.
[F] Let's try this out with our F and G7.
One, two, three, go.
One, two, three, four.
[G] G7.
One, two, three, four.
[F] Back to F.
One, two, three, four.
All right, guys.
So that was it.
