I lost a really sweet friend last Thursday night.
I was on this stage and [Cm]
I [G] knew that she was ill and not expected to last much longer.
[A] [C]
This [Fm] is one of the most [G] spiritual places I've ever been in my life.
[N] This is my favorite place I've ever played music in all my years of [C] doing it.
[D] I had [Cm] planned to go see her Friday morning [G] after a show here last [C] Thursday night, but she didn't make it.
[Fm] But what was beautiful was I felt her spirit come in this [C] room [G] at about [F] 9, 9.30. on [G] Thursday night. It was really beautiful. Today we [C] had her service. Her name is Dawn Sears and she's one of the most gifted singers I've ever heard in my [N] life. The last 22 years she shared a stage with me and sang all the high parts. That's hard. It's strange. All those years she never missed a note. One of the [Cm] best singers I've ever heard in my life. I was racking my brain. [N] Her husband Kenny and I played. We all played together with the Time Jumpers. Little swing band that played Monday nights downtown here [G] at Third [C] House. I was racking my [G] brain for a song to sing for her. I didn't know how hard it was going to be to sing for her. It's like losing part of my family. [C] That [N] Thursday night after I felt that spirit come through this room, Amy got on the bus and went to Dallas. I went home and I pulled out my little boom box and I played Dawn singing. [C] She did a great job. She did a great job. [Fm] I was just [G] [Fm] completely undone by [C] the beauty of her voice. The next morning when I found out [N] that she had gone I immediately sat down and started writing [G] some words for her. I hope that when I turn into a [A] song [G] I sing it for her today. It was [Fm] [G] really sweet to [C] send her on over to the other side. I'd love [G] to sing you that song. I don't know it very good. [C] I'm going to just [G#] simply call it Kid [F#] Sister. [C] [D]
[G]
[C]
[G] Oh, we're at [C] the end now. Oh, I [F] wish I knew how to [G] tell you goodbye. Just a [C] little while. [G] There's white doves [C] in the window. Kid sister [F] just let go. [G] That I know you can fly will help me make it [C] all. [G]
I smiled when [C] you laughed. And I wept when [F] you'd sing. [G] All my life without you. And it sure [C] was a mistake. [G] But Jesus [C] is waiting. His arms [F] open wide. [C] [F] [G] Oh, he'll sound amazing. [C] [G] With you right by [C] his side. [E] Sweet [Bm] [E] memory. I [F] carry you with me. [C] [F#] And I will always [F#m] believe. [D] I'll see [G] you again. Dawn knows angels [C] they've carried on. Say hello [F] to your new world. [G] Heaven's about to unfurl. And you'll suffer [C] more. [G] We're all [C] coming someday. All the old [F] band will play. [G]
We'll gather forever and sing. On that beautiful [C] shore. [G]
We'll gather Kid Sister and sing. On that beautiful shore. [C] [N]
