[B]
That simple little [D] set of chords [B] and introductory bass [C#] notes is of course Buddy [A]
Holly's Well
[B] Alright.
[A#] And I've put together a very short lesson on this [A] song because this is really
basic.
This is like one of the few level two songs that we have [D] at Totally Guitars.
As
part of the Target program we of course have a lot more complicated ones and we have [G] not
too many simpler [D] than this, although it does work on picking some things out.
[D#m] So, and of
course we have a lot of stuff in the free lesson section as well, but right now this
is in the Target section.
And [D] the key to this is he plays this with a capo at the fourth
fret.
[B] This song is of course covered in 1969 by [D] Blind Faith, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood
and the gang, and a little bit later by Santana.
So it's really become a mainstream [F#] sort of
song, but if you haven't heard the original, [D#] that's what it sounded [B] like.
[G] Four chords involved.
D, C, G [C] and A.
[F#] You can probably [G] figure it out from there.
Buddy did a capo at the fourth
[F#] fret.
He also [D#] had some little [D] bass notes leading in.
So the biggest thing [D#] you can get out of
getting started on with this is picking out the fifth string open, [C#] A, disregarding the
[D#m] capo, then the [E] third fret, C, [F#m]
heading up to the D.
[F#]
Strumming the D [D] chord, going to a C
[E] chord and [F#] back to a D.
Now [D#] the next time around it's going to be D to A [G] and back to D.
[D] And
when it's going [B] to A it uses a different sequence of notes.
It uses [A] an A [C#] and a B.
[D#m] [F#]
[C#] [D#m] So the intro.
[C#] We've got A to C to D [D] played starting on beat three.
Up, down, [A] up as far as the picking
goes.
[F#] You need to [D] come in on beat three, on [D#m] the and of beat three.
One and [G] two and [C#] three
and four and.
[B] And the and of beat four is the open [F#] D string.
Strum the D for two beats.
Up, down, up would be [B] enough.
Go [F#m] to a C chord, hit a C in the bass [E] and back to the [F#] D chord.
Then we have three more bass notes.
[C#] A as an up, B as a down, second fret [B] of the fifth
string and then the [F#] open D again.
And this time strumming goes [C#] to an A chord.
[F#]
[D#] So that
intro.
[A#] Very slowly.
One [F#] and two and three.
[C#m]
[F#] [E]
[F#]
[C#]
[F#] And [G#] that's pretty much what's happening during
the singing of the verse anyway, just without the bass [F#] notes.
[E] [F#]
[C#]
Anyway, [D] that's about the whole
song.
Of course in the chorus it goes to a [C] G.
I bet you can figure that out from now,
but if you'd like [B] to see this lesson, come visit us at Totally Guitars where there are
a lot more lessons by Buddy and [C#] four or five hundred lessons [G] like now on all different
kinds of stuff.
Most of which are more complicated than this, [F#] but Well Alright [D] is up there now
[B] and a great song for [D#m] beginners who can already play a little bit of chords but want to work
on hitting bass notes.
There's only a couple [A#] of times you have to hit three [F#] bass notes
in a row.
[G#] So, [D#m] hope you can visit us [G#] at [G] TotallyGuitars.com.
