Okay, here's a tutorial for the Stranglers Golden Brown.
This one's a great song from the early 80s
This is just the way I play it.
I've never really seen anybody else playing this song
It's just the way I [N] sort of figured out to play it for myself one day
So I thought I'd show you
If you want to add or take stuff away from or do whatever you like with it take it and go with [C] it
This is the way that I [G] play the intro
[Am]
[Em] [F] [G]
[Am]
[Em] [F]
[C] [D] [Am]
[Em] [F]
[Em] [Am]
[Em] [G]
[C] [Dm]
[C] [Dm]
[C] Okay, so he's trying to emulate that kind of harpsichord sort of sound
The [Am] chords for that intro part are A minor, [Em]
E minor, [F]
[Am] F major 7
[C] And then on a C
You're doing a little run down
[D]
[Am] Run down back into your A minor
So I'll just [E] show you how I'm kind of [F] strumming it as well.
[G] So on the A minor
I'm gonna hit [A] the fifth and the fourth
[E] and then [Am] down up down up on the sort of the top three strings
Then on the [E] E minor I'm gonna hit the open E string and then two down [Em] strokes
Sort of muted down strokes.
[Am] So you get all
[C] right, then make your F
[F] If you can thumb the bass note
It's a bit easier
[C] Otherwise, you've got to just [F]
use the fourth string as your bass note
[Am]
[B] So the general rule of thumb [F] is to hit a bass and then the [G] second note and [Am] then a down up down [F] up
So just trying to avoid the fifth string there
[G] [E] That's the F.
So you get again just back to the A [Am] minor
[Em] E
[F] F
6th [Am] 4th
Down up down up [C] then make a C and then on the [E] fourth string
[C] Hit the fourth string open [D] the fourth string
[C] Play the fifth string
Then second fret on [B] the fifth string then you're ready to come straight down back [A] into your A minor
Play the open fifth string again
[Am] Repeat
[Em]
[F]
[C] [E] [D]
[C] [B] [Am]
[Em]
[F]
[C] [D]
[Cm] [Am]
Speed it up a bit
[Em] [F]
[C]
[B] [Am] [Em]
[F]
[C] [Am]
[Em] three times
[Am]
[B] [Am] Now on the [Em] fourth time
Exactly the same up into the E minor [G] then to a G
So and on the G 6th 5th down up down up and then to an [F] F
So hit the F and the G down [Am] strokes on the F for the fourth time through
[Em] [G]
[F]
[C] Then you're just going [Ab] into D [D] minor now
Which is leading into your verse
[Dm]
[C] [A] So the C so on the D minor
[D]
open fourth third
[Dm] Down up down up top three strings
[C] C hit the fifth string as your bass and then down down and keep [Dm] that up
[C]
[Dm] [C]
[D] [C] Like that [D] and that's your [C] verse
[D] golden [C] brown
[Dm] texture [C] like Sun
[D] [C] lays me down
[D] With my [C] mind she [D] runs
throughout [C] the night
[D] No need [C] to fight
[D] Never [C] a frown
[D] With [C] golden brown [Dm] [C] keep it up.
[D] Just the only D [C] minor to C
[D] [C] every time
[D] Just like [C] the last
[D] On [C] a ship [Dm] tied to [C] the mast
[Dm] two [C] distant lands
[D] Takes both [C] my hands
[A] never [C] a frown
[D] with [C] golden
[Am] Back [Em] into your throat [F] here.
[C]
[Am] [Em]
[F] [D]
[A] Just repeat [E] that to get to [G] verse three a [D] solo
Which is again the solo is just the D minor to the C [G] and then when you get right to the very end
[E] It's just again the same chords from the intro
[Am] [Em]
[F] [G]
[Am] [Em]
[F] [Em]
I
Sorry, I [E] lie it's not quite [Am] the same
[Em] Hey, my name is Eddie minor [F]
F and [G] it's G.
[C] So it's to G rather [Eb] than C [E] through the
through the outro
[A]
[Em] [F]
[G]
[Bm] [F]
[G] [Am]
[Em] [F]
[G] [Am] You
Get the general idea, [A] okay base [E] to base hits down up down [Em] up base down down [N] Did [B] it
[Gb] [E]
[G] Just keep that pattern up through the whole song you won't go wrong
So that gives you the general drift of that song, you know
I'm not quite hitting [F] exactly the right notes every single [Ab] time as you can see
It's pretty hard [G] to to get it right exactly the whole time and sing.
So
Anyway, go forth have fun with it golden brown
This one's a great song from the early 80s
This is just the way I play it.
I've never really seen anybody else playing this song

[Am]
[Em] [F] [G]
[Am]
[Em] [F]
[C] [D] [Am]
[Em] [F]
[Em] [Am]
[Em] [G]
[C] [Dm]
[C] [Dm]
[C] Okay, so he's trying to emulate that kind of harpsichord sort of sound
The [Am] chords for that intro part are A minor, [Em]
E minor, [F]
[Am] F major 7
[C] And then on a C
You're doing a little run down
[D]
[Am] Run down back into your A minor
So I'll just [E] show you how I'm kind of [F] strumming it as well.
[G] So on the A minor
I'm gonna hit [A] the fifth and the fourth
[E] and then [Am] down up down up on the sort of the top three strings
Then on the [E] E minor I'm gonna hit the open E string and then two down [Em] strokes
Sort of muted down strokes.
[Am] So you get all
[C] right, then make your F
[F] If you can thumb the bass note
It's a bit easier
[C] Otherwise, you've got to just [F]
use the fourth string as your bass note
[Am]
[B] So the general rule of thumb [F] is to hit a bass and then the [G] second note and [Am] then a down up down [F] up
So just trying to avoid the fifth string there
[G] [E] That's the F.
So you get again just back to the A [Am] minor
[Em] E
[F] F
6th [Am] 4th
Down up down up [C] then make a C and then on the [E] fourth string
[C] Hit the fourth string open [D] the fourth string
[C] Play the fifth string
Then second fret on [B] the fifth string then you're ready to come straight down back [A] into your A minor
Play the open fifth string again
[Am] Repeat
[Em]
[F]
[C] [E] [D]
[C] [B] [Am]
[Em]
[F]
[C] [D]
[Cm] [Am]
Speed it up a bit
[Em] [F]
[C]
[B] [Am] [Em]
[F]
[C] [Am]
[Em] three times
[Am]
[B] [Am] Now on the [Em] fourth time
Exactly the same up into the E minor [G] then to a G
So and on the G 6th 5th down up down up and then to an [F] F
So hit the F and the G down [Am] strokes on the F for the fourth time through
[Em] [G]
[F]
[C] Then you're just going [Ab] into D [D] minor now
Which is leading into your verse
[Dm]
[C] [A] So the C so on the D minor
[D]
open fourth third
[Dm] Down up down up top three strings
[C] C hit the fifth string as your bass and then down down and keep [Dm] that up
[C]
[Dm] [C]
[D] [C] Like that [D] and that's your [C] verse
[D] golden [C] brown
[Dm] texture [C] like Sun
[D] [C] lays me down
[D] With my [C] mind she [D] runs

[D] With [C] golden brown [Dm] [C] keep it up.
[D] Just the only D [C] minor to C

[D] Just like [C] the last
[D] On [C] a ship [Dm] tied to [C] the mast
[Dm] two [C] distant lands
[D] Takes both [C] my hands
[A] never [C] a frown
[D] with [C] golden
[Am] Back [Em] into your throat [F] here.
[C]
[Am] [Em]
[F] [D]
[A] Just repeat [E] that to get to [G] verse three a [D] solo
Which is again the solo is just the D minor to the C [G] and then when you get right to the very end
[E] It's just again the same chords from the intro
[Am] [Em]
[F] [G]
[Am] [Em]
[F] [Em]
I
Sorry, I [E] lie it's not quite [Am] the same
