Hi, this is TJ with Piano Clubhouse.
Today I'm going to show you how to play
Clean Inside by Heza Ki Walker.
Real easy song.
Well,
somewhat easy.
It has only two right hand chords in it.
The whole song is just two chords.
The left hand is just doing one bass line, but the tricky part, which kind of makes this song a little difficult, is
the rhythm in which it's happening, and it's a little hard to coordinate both your hands to do it at that rhythm.
But I'll show it to you, and hopefully you'll have the time to put in so you can get it down to [Fm] play for your
church, okay?
So, song is A flat.
[Ab] A flat has four accidentals.
A [Bb] flat and B [C] flat.
[Db] D flat [Eb] and E flat.
[G]
[Ab]
[Db] [Bb]
Left hand, the groove.
[Ab] A flat, then you're gonna B flat.
Now, let me play it first.
[B] [Ab]
[Gb] [Ab] [B] [C] [Ab]
[Gb] [Ab] [B] [Ab] [Gb]
[Ab] [B] [Ab]
Okay, so A flat, [Bb] then B [B] flat, [C] B, C.
Okay, you're [Ab] gonna roll.
[B]
[C] [Bb] [Eb] E [Ab] flat, A flat, [Gb] G flat.
[Ab] Okay, [A] [Ab]
[Bb] [B] [C] [Ab] [Gb]
[Ab] [Bb] [C] [Ab]
[Gb] [Ab] [Bb] [C]
[Ab] [Gb] [Ab] [Bb]
[C] [Ab] four times.
We're gonna do it eight times.
This is [B] fifth,
[C] [Ab] [Gb] [Ab]
six,
[B] [C] [Ab] [Gb]
[Ab] same thing, seventh.
[B] [C] [Ab]
Eighth time, just hit the A flat.
[Db]
An eighth time is kind of a rest, a bar of rest where we don't play, and [Bb] there's some fills.
A couple times
there's a fill from the bass player.
There's a fill from the organ.
I think there's a fill from the drummer.
[Ab] So that eighth time, you just hit the A flat [N] and wait.
That's kind of when the choir also says, won't he make you, you kind of break so that they can say that in that
point, in that section, okay?
So that's easy to do with the left hand, okay?
[Ab] Right hand, easy chords.
[Bb] A flat major [Ab] 7.
A flat, C, E [Cm] flat, with a G.
[Ab]
[Bbm] [Gb]
[Ab] So we're gonna play G flat major 7.
I'm sorry, [Gb] completely off.
G flat, B flat, and E [Bbm] flat with the F.
[Gb] There we go.
That's what I want.
And [Ab] then
the [Gb] G flat stays put while these [Bbm] other three fingers move from here [C] over to [Ab] the right
to make it an A flat major 7 chord.
E flat and not [Ebm] major 7, just the A flat 7.
[Ab] G flat, A flat, F.
So the G flat stays [Bbm] while these other three rotate.
[Ab] [Bbm] Won't he make you clean?
[Ab] Inside.
Won't he [Gb] make you clean?
[Ab] Won't [Fm]
[Gb]
[Ab] he [Bbm] make you clean?
And then the last time, just break.
[Ab]
Inside.
[Gb] Won't he make you clean?
Okay?
And so [Ab] the tricky part, as I said, is putting it together.
Now you can do what I just did and just
sustain or hold the right hand.
Won't he [Bbm] make you clean?
[B]
[Gb] [Ab]
[Gb] [Bbm]
[Gb] [Abm] Inside.
Last
[Db] [Gb]
[Ab]
[Db] [Bbm] [F] [Gb]
[Ab] time, inside.
So you [N] can sustain that right hand if you like.
Or, like I said, if you get a little practicing and you get the coordination to do it, kind of bounce that right hand.
Won't he [Gb] make you clean?
This is kind of what they're doing in the [Ab] recording.
Won't he make [Gb] you clean?
[Ab] Inside.
[Fm]
Won't he make [Gb] you clean?
[Ab] Inside.
Won't he make [Gb] you clean?
Last one.
[Ab] Inside.
[N] So the tricky part is putting that bouncing right hand with the left hand and keeping it in time.
That's really, really tricky to do without having one or the other fall out of rhythm.
[Cm]
[Fm] [Gb] I
[Ab] [Gb]
[Ab]
[Gb]
[Ab]
[Gb]
keep getting off right [Ab] there.
[Gb]
[Ab]
Won't he [E] make you [Ab] clean?
[Gb]
[Ab]
Inside.
[Gb]
[Ab] [G]
[Gb]
[Ab]
[Gb]
[Ab] [Db] [G] Won't [F] [Gb] he [G] make [Gb] you clean?
[Ab]
[Gb]
[Ab]
[Gb]
[Ab]
[Gb]
[Ab] [N]
Or even if you have a drummer at church who can just play with you.
It'll help you to keep and put all that together.
But more or less it's a real simple song.
Just two chords on the right hand.
Just a runner bass because he's left handed.
If you have a bass player who can run that bass,
then that's just easier for you.
You can just go ahead and bounce that right hand and you don't have to worry about it.
