Hey guys, it's Carl Brown [Gb] from GuitarLessons365.com.
[B] Today we're going to learn how to play Ain't No [G] Sunshine by Bill Withers.
So this is going to be a quick one.
It's a pretty [Eb] easy song.
[Bb] I'm going to actually use the same [Bbm] fingerings that he does, even though they're probably
[C] to me not the most natural.
[Am] [G] I would rather [Am] play them like this with these three fingers, but he plays it [C] like this,
so we're [E] going to play it like that.
But you can use [Gm] whatever fingers you really want.
All right, so let's talk about this picking pattern real quick.
[Gb] It's all this pretty much, it's a fingerstyle pattern.
Let's grab this first [Bb] chord and I'll show it to you.
[Gb] It's just the fifth fret here on the low [A] E, then the fifth fret on the D [Am] and the G.
All right, [G] so all you have to do for [A] the picking, pick the [Am] thumb and then use your [A] index and
middle fingers to hit the [C] two middle strings.
So we [Am] got a thumb, so that thumb's getting the bottom note.
So we did that twice.
All right, so that's going to be the picking pattern [Db] there.
Now the next chord is just going [D] to be the low E open [E] string, and then the two strings
you're going to hit with your index and middle [Em] will be the G, open G and the open B.
So we have [Am] this twice on this one,
[Em] once on that chord, and then you're going to come
down [D] to the third fret here on the low [G] E, third fret on the [F] D, [G] but instead of playing
the third fret on the G as well, that same chord shape, you're going to move that up
to the fourth fret.
So [Db] you hit that one just once as well, and [Eb] then you come back to the [Am] first chord, hit
it once [F] and let it ring.
So all [G] together, the main part [Am] is this.
[G] [Am] There's a [Db] pause, and then he goes through that chord [Am] progression again.
[G] [Am]
[Eb] All right, so [E] you're going to [G] repeat [Bb] that through various parts of the song.
[Eb] The only other progression in the [Bb] song is he [G] takes his same [Eb] concept here, but he's coming
to the seventh fret here on [E] the A with [G] your [Db]
index finger.
Then you're going to [Bb] take the seventh fret on the G [Dm]
[Bb] and the eighth fret on the B.
[G] So it's the G and the B [Db] that you're hitting now with the [E] index and middle, still the thumb
getting the bottom note.
We have [Em] that [Db] four times, then move down two [Dm] frets, and then back to the [Am] original progression.
[Em] [G]
[Am] All together.
[Em]
[Dm]
[Am]
[Em] [G] [Am]
[B] All right, that's about it [Bb] for the only two [C] progressions found [B] in Ain't No Sunshine.
[E] It's a simple song, [C] [Db]
but it's really great, and it's a great little, [C] if you don't have
a lot [B] of finger style experience, just [Db] kind of start with [B] that.
Just [C] try to keep your hand [Bb] nice and relaxed, and play those easy chord [B] shapes, and you'll have it.
[Eb] All right, [Bbm] hope you enjoyed it.
I'll see you [E] again soon for [B]
